F2 wanted

Unread post by Thehaunch » Fri Oct 05, 2018 6:39 pm

Hi folks
Just joined the forum and new to the sidecars , have done some racing in the solos at clubman level in the past and I’m looking at buying an outfit for clubman level any advice would be much appreciated.
Also an idea of how much to expect to pay for an outfit starting out and what type would be best suited .
Thanks

Hi.
It's the same as any sport. The more you pay the more you get. Second hand bikes go from 4k to 40k.
For the last few years bikes have held there prices. As a make to start with there is no answer to that. There all good. Mainly go for the motor breed you want.
Prob no help but tried.

Nick

Hi Nick
Having been down this path fairly recently, I can give a little advice

For a starter bike, you will be looking at around 8-10k to have something ready to go, or around 5-8K for something that will need some work to get reliable (A subjective word with sidecars). If you are a good tinkerer and have some time, some real bargains can be had in the low end (4-6k), so the choice is yours. I would suggest having a look at the events/ circuits you want to race as this may have an effect on the outfit you buy (pre-injection for example).

Fore the outfit itself, there have been quite a few good chassis builders, and a few good copies as well. I would say that history is almost more important. Good to know where/what the outfit has done, who has looked after it. As for motors, if it is an older 600 it is worth looking around what availability is like, some of the early 2000 600S are getting hard to find now.

When you decide, it is good to have a sidecar guy look at it with you. Sidecar chassis work, they bend, they crack. So the odd repair shouldn't be a huge shock (personal opinion), but the repair should be done right. Also I like to have seller that knows his outfit, who can tell you about it is detail. It is a sport that requires a lot of maintenance, and regular checking, so you tend to get to know the machine well.

Personally, the minimum you want is an outfit with a full change of rims (6 wheels) and at least 1 spare motor. often the spare will jest be a stock, and not prepared (not the right sump etc) but best if it is ready to go. Then any other spares, like sprockets, shocks, radiators stuff like that is an option.

Last, as for what type, I went the F1 route for different reasons (I still prefer F1s) but my missus hates it, after some time on classic outfits she hates the isolation of being so far away and not being able to communicate with me. No problem there with F2s But as an aside, there seems lots of good racing to be had in classics, and they are great fun, and if you want cheap fun racing then BEARS seems to be the best option. So have a think before committing

I hope this helps. As said, I am still fairly new to this game after years on solos and a handful as passenger/mechanic on classic outfits. But if you want to chat feel free, always stuff others can learn from my own mistakes :D
Cheers, Eric

We do see them come up for sale now and then. They don't hang around long and they usually need a little work, but I know of a couple of people who snap them up and then you'll see them back on here in a few months for 6-7kl

Hi,
If you're still looking for an outfit I've decided to sell mine after this season, unfortunately I've realised I haven't got the time the sport deserves for next season. It's a Baker F2 chassis running a 2000 ZX6R engine which was raced once this year in the pre-injection series.

Lot's of spares to go with it and it's a nice, complete outfit. If you'd like more info/pics please let me know and I'm happy to send more details to you.

My email is: ac_allcorn@hotmail.co.uk
Mobile num: 07875300512

All the best,

Dan
