The fourth round of the A.C.U. / F.S.R.A. British Formula Two Sidecar Championship will be held with the Wirral 100 club this coming weekend at Anglesey. There has been a lengthy break since round three which took place at Mallory Park over the weekend of the 6th and 7th May. This was owing to the start of the road race season for sidecars. There has one less road meeting with this year's programme at Scarborough being cancelled (to date), but there was still the T.T. and the Southern 100 in which many F.S.R.A. teams compete.

The coastal circuit of Anglesey was first visited by the F.S.R.A. in 2007, and has been used every year since. It's always a popular place to visit for racers, teams and photographers alike with stunning backdrops all around the circuit. I have heard mentioned that Anglesey is the UK`s version of Philip Island in Australia!

Onto the championship, and reigning champions Pete Founds / Jevan Walmsley currently hold a thirty point lead. You would think they are dominating in terms of wins, but the pair have only achieved two victories from six starts. Their tally has been assisted owing to their consistency in securing four second place finishes behind Lee Crawford / Scott Hardie, who have four wins from six races but in addition unfortunately have two D.N.F.'s to their name. After the final race at Mallory, where the pair started from the back of the grid in red hot conditions, they took a superb win which had four teams split by just two seconds. This has hampered the teams bright start to the season as just three points behind are Sean Hegarty / James Neave, who have achieved five podium finishes and a fourth place. There is a thirty three point gap to fourth in the table with the Lowther brothers – John and Jake - reunited after the T.T. and S100, where Jake has been competing with 2015 British Championship winner Alan Founds. Things are much tighter further down the order, with the next six teams separated by just twenty points.

In the F2 Cup Championship, there is a tie at the top of the table, with Ralph Remnant / Sam Tilley and Daryl Gibson / Ashley Moore both on 100 points - a remarkable achievement for the former as they have a single win but have three podium placings and scored points in the other two to show that consistent finishing is fundamental to championship success. Newcomers to the series, Gibson / Moore have so far emulated Crawford / Hardie with four class wins but two DNF`s. Currently in third place in the F2 Cup some forty two points in arrears are Richard Lumley / Ray Whitnell.

Like Mallory Park machine reliability will be paramount with lengthy races – both being sixteen laps, and even more so if the recent hot weather continues to hold out. The last two years has been hot one day followed by torrential rain the next!

The F.S.R.A. British F2 lap record for Anglesey was set some eight years ago by Simon Neary / Dips Chauhan with a time of 1:12.668. For those at the circuit there will be live timing on the TSL Timing website.

On behalf of the F.S.R.A. I would like to pass on my congratulations to those that had successful roads meetings and also heartfelt condolences to the fallen solo competitors namely Adam Lyon, Dan Kneen, William Dunlop and just a couple of weeks ago James Cowton. Also to wish all injured competitors a fast and full recovery, and we hope to see you very soon.
