The second round of the A.C.U./F.S.R.A. British Formula 2 sidecar championship took place this past weekend at Cadwell Park, hosted by the Auto 66 Club. With the forecast not looking great - in fact the polar opposite to the previous weekend at Oulton Park - the weather would indeed have an impact on race one.

A busy ten day period has seen Team A.R.C. competing in the first two rounds of the A.C.U. / F.S.R.A. British F2 Sidecar Championship, at Oulton Park and Cadwell Park respectively. Fielding Lee Crawford / Patrick Farrance on their LCR Suzuki, and John / Jake Lowther on their LCR Honda, there have been high and low points for both combinations.

With little time to draw breath from the season-opening event at Oulton Park last weekend, the ACU/FSRA British F2 Sidecar Championship (incorporating the F2 Cup) heads to Cadwell Park on Easter Sunday and Monday for the second round of the series.

The 32nd ACU/FSRA British F2 Sidecar Championship began back in April. 24 teams had registered, most were ready for the opening races at Oulton Park. Last year's top two, Alan Founds and John Holden had other targets for the season, so unsurprisingly the 'smart money' was on the other teams in last year's top six. It was Pete Founds, now with Jevan Walmsley in the chair, who took a double victory, with Ian and Carl Bell, along with Lee Crawford and Patrick Farrance each taking a second and a third placing. Steve and Mattie Ramsden scored two fourths, while Conrad Harrison and Lee Patterson, along with Dwight Beare and Ben Binns, each took a fifth and a sixth position. It was the Manx residents, Beare and Binns, who took the F2 Cup honours with two class wins and therefore a maximum 50 points.

For the second consecutive year, the Croft round of the British F2 Sidecar Championship concluded with a member of the Founds family having become British Champion! This time, Pete Founds was celebrating along with passenger Jevan Walmsley, after their 8th win from 10 races ensured that they could not be caught, no matter what happens at the Brands Hatch finale.

Pete and Jevan completed their fourth 'double' of the season but despite the low number of entries, neither victory was easy. Entries, as we all know, have been hit hard this year, and there were two late withdrawals from this meeting as first Kevin Perry, Roy Hanks' passenger suffered an injury at work on Wednesday and Nick Dukes had been bitten by some damn thing on holiday. Then the Morgans in qualifying, suffered another engine blow-up and then there were 11!

Round 5 of the ACU/FSRA British F2 Sidecar championship takes place at Croft on Saturday/Sunday 27/28 August Bank Holiday weekend

I hear plenty of comments from teams proclaiming there's not much racing on over some weekends in August ... also around this time of year many F2 sidecar teams are starting to think ahead to next season. We often get asked if they can "test their toes in the water", so to speak and enter as a "wild card". The answer is "YES" so if you have an F2/F600 and would like to have a run out at Croft, now is your chance.

Round four of this year's championship was at Cadwell Park, the circuit used most often in this championship's 32 year-old history. Leading the title chase by a fair margin were Pete Founds and Jevon Walmsley, hoping to leave Cadwell a bit happier than they did last year – their first meeting together and Jevon was ejected at Charlies!

A select group of 13 regulars were joined by two wildcards, Shane High and Jenny Stainton, along with Bruce Collins and Peter DeAngelis, this last pairing having made the journey from Australia and are due to be at Assen next weekend in their whirlwind global tour! Their first impression of the Cadwell circuit? – A bit different from anything previously seen!

The A.C.U./F.S.R.A. British F2 Sidecar Championship entered the second half of its season at Cadwell Park last weekend - a favourite venue for competitors and spectators alike. The Lincolnshire circuit is one which has been a happy hunting ground for Team A.R.C. - with three British Championship podium places (including a win in 2015), numerous club wins and the Auto 66 Club F2 sidecar lap record - it was clear that the Newton Aycliffe based team would be considered amongst the favourites for honours at this meeting.

Round 4 of this year's British F2 Sidecar Championship takes place at Cadwell Park on Saturday/ Sunday 30/31st July. The last round at Anglesey saw the end of Pete Founds and Jevon Walmsley's four-wins-in-four-races sequence, with first Steve and Mattie Ramsden taking their first British win on the Saturday with Lee Crawford and Patrick Farrance opening their win account for the year on the Sunday. Founds had to be content with a second place in race two but with all three leading outfits also suffering a retirement, Founds' title lead was only cut by five points and his 120 points total to Ramsden's 84 and Crawford's 81 still represents a healthy lead.
