Celtic Match Races Report

From the Melville Motor Club

After a 15-year hiatus, the Celtic Match Races made their highly anticipated return on the 20th and 21st of September, hosted by the Melville Motor Club at East Fortune.

Teams from Scotland, Ireland, the Isle of Man, and Wales came together to compete for national pride and the honour of lifting the prestigious Celtic Sword.

The weekend delivered a full spectrum of highs and lows—from red flags and dramatic on-track moments to record-breaking performances, including a standout new lap record by Troy Jeffery in the Lightweights class (1:00.467).

There were even light-hearted moments, such as sidecar “wife swaps” (passenger changes), and some remarkable saves that kept spectators on the edge of their seats.

True to form, the weekend delivered a full range of traditional Scottish weather conditions.

However, the most inspiring aspect of the event was the spirit of collaboration and camaraderie across all nations. Teams worked together to ensure every country was fully represented, making the return of the Celtic Match Races not only possible, but a resounding success.

The Scottish team emerged victorious, proudly raising the Celtic Sword in front of a home crowd on Scottish soil.

Looking ahead to 2026, the Celtic Match Races will take place in Jurby, Isle of Man (dates to be confirmed). The competition will be fierce, and the challenge is clear—we’ll be aiming to bring the Sword home once again.
