Motor Cycle Union Of Ireland (Ulster Centre) Ltd – Statement Issued 24/03/23

Motor Cycle Union Of Ireland (Ulster Centre) Ltd

Statement Issued 24/03/23

Following intense negotiations over the last week in regards to sidecars not being covered within the UC Insurance policy, we can confirm negotiations with insurers have now been completed.

Within these negotiations it has been agreed that a strict and robust risk management plan must be implemented in regards to side car competitors and machines going forward, with highly detailed documentation being formed and presented throughout this year.

With agreement reached on this, we are pleased to say side cars will now be able to compete at MCUI UC events in 2023.

We now all need to look forward and address insurance company concerns together as a centre throughout 2023, should we want racing to continue in 2024.

Fancy a race in Estonia?

Hello sidecar people.

You are invited to Estonia to compete at the Porsche Ring in Pärnu on 03-04.06.2023. to the stage of the Estonian championships. The Porsche Ring has been recognized as the best circuit in the Nordics and the Baltics (www.porschering.ee) and in addition it would be a great opportunity to enjoy a completely new circuit for you in Northern Europe, Estonia, for a change from Central and Southern Europe.
The schedule is still to be specified, but it is estimated that 2 free practices, 2 qualifications and 2 races (sprint and race) could be raced. The closest race is 16-18.06.2023 in Finland at Motopark (www.Motopark.fi)

I would like to know how many of you would be interested in it and able to come. The more the merrier!

I am waiting for answers to my email silverkuusk87@gmail.com

Best regards

Scarborough Spring Cup entries

By Dan Clarke

Entry forms for the Spring Cup meeting at Oliver’s Mount, Scarborough are now out. The meeting is on 15/16 April with a closing date for entries on 6 March. If there are not enough entries by the closing date the organisers will have no option but to drop the class, which is something they really do not want to have to do.

Oliver’s Mount is a great circuit to race at and being the only real road circuit in Great Britain is a great one to have on your CV, especially if you are planning on doing the TT or S100 at some time in the future.

So come on you slidey teams, get your entries in early and don’t leave it until the last minute as so often has happened in the past and the reason why some clubs dropped the sidecar class at various meetings or even altogether. Lets keep sidecars alive at Oliver’s Mount. Unfortunately national licences are an ACU requirement for all competitors.

2023 TT Regulations, things of note

I haven’t had a chance to read all the way through yet (hardly read it at all to be honest), but there are a couple of points that have been brought up in conversation with Mark and Tim that you may want to look at before heading off to the Island.

If we see any more we will add them on here..

6.2. All main mounting pins/plates such as forward of the steering head must be secured
to the bodywork with a steel plate no smaller that 100mm square. This must be both
riveted and bonded (e.g. fibreglass/resin) to the bodywork in order to render it a
permanent and secure fixing point. For verification purposes all Rivet Heads must be
intact and visible on the outside of the bodywork.

6.3. There must be no fewer than four main mounting pins/pegs secured with “R” clips
dispersed appropriately around the main bodywork. All bodywork fixing pins/pegs
