Re: Honda cbr600 oil

I used to run my engines in on a good mineral oil (Castrol GTX was recommended) for at least 100 miles before switching over to synthetic. Use up to max revs ...but not max throttle. When Mick Boddice was running Hondas, he destroyed a couple of newly built Keith Whiting engines before they realised...

Re: Heavy steering ?

Steering heaviness varies from maker to maker. Some chassis were built specifically for the TT, where straight line stability is preferred over chuckability My early Shelbourne 350 was extremely light - if I sneezed on a straight it would be all over the place. Lol. I had a ride on Derek Plummer's A...

Neil Sutherland ran a Wartburg 2 stroke outfit in the late 60s/early 70s.

Re: Dick Hawes

Dick always had time for a chat and he helped me out a lot at my first TT.
I never saw him anything other than cheerful.
A sad loss to all who knew him.
RIP mate.

Re: Personal sidecar racing query - 1970's

Sorry, cant help you with info on your dad. I'm sure someone will be along to help out. One thing I can help straighten out, is that your dad was most definitely not the first to have a female passenger. There have been numerous over the years. Pat Wise passengered for Eric Oliver at the TT back in ...

Nigel Rollason

Just heard that Nigel Rollason passed away suddenly on 5th February. A great all rounder, talented engineer and (I believe) the only man to win on 2 and 3 wheels in the Isle of Man. I had the honour of knowing Nigel as a fellow Kings Norton MCC member and it was through him that I became interested ...

Re: Esholt Park Circuit

I rode at Esholt in 1981/2 at NSA sprints on a supercharged 500 Triumph which is now owned by Henry Cole (he of the Motorcycle Show on ITV). As previously said, the finish was on a bit of a bend. I ended up going through the gate on the outside of the bend once - fortunately they left it open during...

Correct. I did most of the NG events through the early 90s as well. The only Honda engine I remember Julian using was a four cylinder CBR1000.

Re: Big Phil

That's sad news. Phil was a real character and always lifted the mood.
Had a good few laughs with him in the TT paddock in the 90s.
Anyone else remember his snoring? He kept the whole paddock awake at Cadwell one night! LOL.
RIP mate.

Re: Dave Saville TT machines 1979-1990.

DMR is dave Molyneux Racing so yes same thing. Yes and no..... Moly didn't start calling his chassis DMR until quite sometime after he started making them in 1992/3. I don't recall what year Dave actually started calling them DMR himself, but it may well have been after 2003, or Greg was using an o...
