Re: Gordon Platt Outfit

I wish you well in your quest, I remember regularly racing against Gordon at Cadwell (Formula 5?), chasing him made me up my game a lot.

Re: Three makes of F1 chassis on the grid in 2021

"No sliding joints allowed in steering I think." Correct. That rule was to specifically rule out 'wobbly wheel' steering (keeps the wheel contact patch constant (as is possible) at all times) which is only achievable with a sliding bearing. How suspicious that the only enclosed bearing on ...

Re: Three makes of F1 chassis on the grid in 2021

Call me a cynical old fart (and many do!), but wasn't Mr LCR the first to build a chassis ignoring the rules and then force the FIM to 'legalise' his design or his rider would just not play with his toys at your GP, so there. That is why the illegal steering bearing was always hidden in a bag, and w...

Re: FIM World Championships, Prize Money & the Decline of the "Adventurer Race"

Insightful and on point, as ever, Dave. Bit more flesh on the bones, Kenny Roberts was the instigator for the dumping of outfits from the world championship - because when he approached potential sponsors, he was met with, "I can get an entire sidecar team for the season for less than half of w...

Re: BRAKE DISCK

Eric, When John built my outfit new (which is still in the garage) - it has the same discs as Adriano's outfit, I remember him telling me they were from a car, trouble is after all the passing years I cannot remember which make or model he told me it was. I do know that over the years John was build...

Re: BRAKE DISCK

The discs that John used were items that were a standard car fitment, not really sure of the make or model, possibly Ford Cortina.
Sorry cannot be more helpful.

Re: 2 stroke revival ?

Quite so Eric, The 2s (as we knew it) of yesterday is now long gone for possible modern use. Clean burn fuels open the possibility to electrically actuated exhaust (and possibly transfer) ports. Great idea - hybrid use for starting. It will still end up powering a generator, not a transmission system.

Re: 2 stroke revival ?

A logical conclusion really, why? 2 stroke makes more power per displacement and is lighter than 4 stroke,so, Build 2 stroke with forced induction engine running on Ethanol/whatever keeps the greens smiling, tuned for a high output narrow power band to drive an electrical generator (that operates at...

Re: BEARs rule freeze

Hello Ian, thanks for that. "You'd be up against long outfits" - screw those things, they ain't an outfit, never were, nowt but a bloody chicane at a UK short circuit. Back in the day, my mate was a scrutineer at the Brit GP and insisted on trying to open the bag on Biland's original worm ...

Re: BEARs rule freeze

Hello Ian, thanks for the clarification. When parking my conventional TZ back in the day, I wondered where I might get a good race with it in future days and was relieved when FE popped up (although circumstances have conspired to stop me dragging it back out ever since). If FE want to encourage all...

Re: BEARs rule freeze

Hi Ian, sorry for using the word 'moan', my bad choice of wording (being a Brummie, English is my second language!!!!! :o ). Cannot accurately remember the 90s classic scene (I was busy with other things then), so why did people race forotten era when their bikes could enter classic (including tride...

Re: BEARs rule freeze

Well done Phil, definitely a step in the right direction. Ian, bit confused here, why moan about triumph/yam twin engine outfits not racing - there has always been the classic club for these engine small wheelers. I always thought the Forgotten era was designed for TZ/big multicylinder 4 stroke era ...
