frame finish, painting ??

Unread post by ian staples »

Hi all. looking for ideas on tubular frame finishing , after two years of trying to keep the unpainted frame from rusting I am wanting to do something but not sure the best way to go . How are the LCR F2 frames finished , it looks to me like they are bead blasted and clear coated ???. Any suggestions most welcome.

Having a tubular F1 chassis I'm interested to hear the replies myself.

As above, bare metal is best, 0000 gauge wirewool with oil, autosol or WD40, scotch brite pads are also good if you don't want to use wirewool.

Bare metal, then spray with duck oil.Unless it is wiped off,or you are in a torrential downpour it will stop the frame rusting for at least 6 mths if its dry and a week if it gets wet, time enough for you to dry it off and reapply.WD40 is a waste of time,it does what it says on the tin,its a water dispersant, and evaporates in air, whearas the duck oil will soak into the steel, and leave a surface skin on it.Hope this helps.

Hi
after polishing the frame use "Rainprotect" from Würth. You can keep the bike one week in wet gras, no rust. It is after polishing not antirust. To clean the frame use a rag and wd40.
The method keept my baker shiny over 13 years. still like new.

Hi , After 475 views I have yet to find out exactly what the finish on the LCR f2 frames is , one thing I heard was they were blasted and lightly powder coated. I'm not sure what lightly powder coating is exactly.

LCR F2 frames are blasted as standard. Any other finish is optional.

Best way to keep on top of a blasted bike is to take them apart and clean them with petrol (I know this is a novel idea for some) some light scotch bright and WD40 on a rag to finish.

Only way to safely check for cracks.
