My pics, Rudi Kurth & Dane Rowe.

Unread post by ianw »

Rudi Kurth, the greatest innovator that sidecar racing has known. Rolf Biland & Louise Christian learnt from this master. Bit ironic really given the fact that they are all Swiss & road racing is banned in Switzerland. most of Rudi's bikes he built were in the 60's & 70's so you can see how far ahead of the time he was. He was running 10" Tyrell F1 wheels while there were still riders in the uk using 16" wheels. Sad how the innovators have gone, or have been forced out by draconian regulations.
The only variation in sidecar racing now a day's is classic racing, F1 as they like to be called & F2 have stagnated. They do run different paint schemes though

Hi Dick, one of the few times that Rudi Kurth had luck on his side was the 1972 Ulster GP that was run at Bishopcourt.
Kenny Arthur was in the chair & they wiped the floor with everyone. I got to have a sit in the bike, I'll say it was the most comfortable kike I have ever been in. It was perfectly moulded to the body.

That is beautifull Alan, nearly 40 years old & the design would still put modern outfits in the shade :?

It is true about the sidecar family - you can stop racing but you can never, ever leave!

From Dane (she's busy at the moment but has just seen this thread)
LOL - also a great pic of me looking like I am shouting CRESCENT MOTORS ARE CRAAAAAAP into the megaphone. Love it. Need to copy that and show it to Rudi when he gets back.

That Bee-Em was a great bike and Bill was a fabulous rider. We had so much fun on our continental trip in Sixty-Nine. And that TT (we came 6th I think - the little plaque has dropped off my replica, need to find it and use a bit of the old superglue) was one of the best races I ever took part in. It was the race when the plexiglass of the sidecar nose cracked, got worse and worse and half the floor pan was dangling off, so I had to hold the battery on by hand (straights and l.h. corners) and by foot (in r.h. corners) otherwise we would have lost the battery. Oh what fun racing was... never a dull moment  These days we would be flagged off for some damn silly "health and safety" reasons..
