That Bee-Em was a great bike and Bill was a fabulous rider. We had so much fun on our continental trip in Sixty-Nine. And that TT (we came 6th I think - the little plaque has dropped off my replica, need to find it and use a bit of the old superglue) was one of the best races I ever took part in. It was the race when the plexiglass of the sidecar nose cracked, got worse and worse and half the floor pan was dangling off, so I had to hold the battery on by hand (straights and l.h. corners) and by foot (in r.h. corners) otherwise we would have lost the battery. Oh what fun racing was... never a dull moment These days we would be flagged off for some damn silly "health and safety" reasons..

Dane, I was just a small boy brought up with sidecars back then - but you were still a legend that i knew about from an early age!
I still a very small boy now, and still playing with sidecars!!!!

Some great pictures and memories from the past,friends, relations etc,that was real racing and commeraide and more fun than in to-days world of megga bucks racing and possibly more enjoyable, but times and attitudes change, albeit for the better?

This coming Monday, 26th May, on BBC 4 at 9 pm there will be a program about mods and rockers.
There was a BBC crew at our house in early April doing an interview with me about my early days
as a lady rocker hooligan , so if you want to know what I look like now, keep your eyes open
in that program.

The iPlayer is such a wonderful thing and the Mods and Rockers prog may well answer a few questions, well for my 15yo son who asked the very same question during our very recent trip to the IOM.. He is yet to watch the programee.....

For my self I caught the arse end of any friction between Bikers and Scooter boys,I got to ride pillion on a 350RD Yamaha exactly one week before the compulsary helmet law came into force. The quick guys tended to use early 2 stroke Suzuki's such as the Super Six or even S1C Kawasaki's and later came the early DS7 Yamahas...

A couple of years later we were often challenged by Mods on GP250 Scooters who were hard to shake off......


I always suspected the media at the time could create a frenzy as they did later with music groups/bands.


My question is simply: Ms Rowe Why were you asked about the culture of the bikers rather than your exploits as a female racing passenger?

PS, My first swing on a European circuit was with (My Hero ) Stuart Applegate, who introduced me to Bill Copson and the rest of the guys from Ashton/Staylybridge.
