Im a longtime subscriber to MOTORSPORT Steve,and Ive been reading their historic results for years.
As an example,if you wish to race an historic F1 car,then most race series have thier different classes divided up into classes based upon the basic rules from periods I.e the 3 litre era,is divided into seperate races for pre70 cars I think,(no wings)and then upto about 80 for the next class,and so on and so forth.
If you wish to enter a lot of the larger series,then your car has to be inspected by the FIA(equivelant to the FIM)to check it is either ,original or to original spec as far as is practical(safety is upgraded where possible,plumbed in extinguishers etc).if they are happy,your car gets an FIA passport.Which increases the value of your car,as it allows you to enter the bigger meetings,such as Goodwood.If not,then you cant enter the bigger meetings.
I do believe about 3 or 4 years ago the winning GT40 at Goodwood was thrown out of the race,and the owner was told he would not be invited again because his car was running more modern componants than were allowed(brakes I think).
Re Gedinne that wouldve put the T500 just in front of me I assume?(I havent checked his laptimes).Please note the guys on the T500 are talented,note also the F350 in 4th had never been there before,Im sure Gordons performance will improve when he knows his way around better.

Excuse my ignorance,but was talking to a bloke in the pub,(as you do) he said he had an old F2 in the shed sans engine, doesn't know what it is but he was wondering if he put the appropriate engine in it would it be eligible/convertible to Post Classic,told him I had no idea but would ask the resident experts on here..

No long wheelbase sidecars

Wheels may be of 10" 12" 13 "or 16" both slick and treaded tyres are eligible.
Streamlining must be of an appearance in keeping with the period.
ENGINES
Twin cylinder engines that started production by 1984 may be up to 1300cc four strokes.
Period 1 Multi cylinder engines and car derived engines may be up to 1300cc two or four stroke of a type that started production by 1978 e.g.GS10000, Z1000, TZ750S etc.
