Re: STEVE GRAINGER
Different Steve Grainger Jo,not the TT scrutineer. The SG in question was from Shirebrook,a small pit village on the Notts/Derbyshire border and raced from the late sixties to mid seventies.I think he raced a BSA outfit and then a Windle Honda and was passengered by Graham Bettison.

Re: STEVE GRAINGER
Yes Eddy, I had been told he was a Cop, he was quite aloof as I remember him. On one programme he was listed as from Mansfield.
Thanks for the input guys.
I am still searching for David Bryant or Bryan who purchased my Konig /Foale outfit in 1979 he was a northerner.
Shortly after I sold it I saw his name in the MCN Cadwell results.

Yes,I seem to remember him being a copper, didn't really mix with the other sidecar lads.Mansfield is only about 5 miles from Shirebrook. Here is a poor quality photo of him with what looks like a Fiddaman Triumph outfit, taken at Cadwell.

Re: STEVE GRAINGER
Dave, that is a different Steve Grainger, who was formerly a TT Scrutineer (mentioned by Jo in the first reply), he was also Chief Scrutineer at Oliver's Mount and Auto 66 Club events for many years. He passengered for Ted, Ian Ward and one or two others (his last ride as a passenger was with my father at Elvington in the mid-1990's on an F2). He also raced various solos, latterly a Suzuki T20 (again in the 1990's). He lives close to Bedale, North Yorkshire.

Re: STEVE GRAINGER
I remember Steve very well, I bought his Honda off him and I found him to be friendly and very helpful.(despite him being a traffic cop)
When I started racing a sidecar in 1974 he was the Midland Club Champion, I met him at Llandow, it was my second meeting on a sidecar and obviously I could beat anyone and everyone. I went off the line in front and after a couple of laps spun going into bottom bend, restarted and a couple of laps later spun again, got going and finished 4th or 5th.
Back in the paddock Steve came up to me for a chat 'cos he could see I was an expert. He told be that for the couple of laps that I was in front of him I spent more time looking back at him instead of looking ahead. That was the start of a long conversation during which he gave me a lot of very worthwhile information and tips.
He was always a great guy to race with, very fast and safe. One of the best races I ever had was on my BSA when I beat Steve on the Honda and the Wilson brothers on their imp to take a win at Wellesbourne.(it was a bit damp).

I took the shell off my racing snail thinking it would make him faster.
It just made him more sluggish.

Re: STEVE GRAINGER
Thanks guys, now all we need is to find him alive and well, he must be into his 70's now, I checked the phone book for Mansfield and area but no listing. I still would like someone to look through their old programmes and find D Bryant for me.
