Warwick Newman/ Howard Smith

Hi all

My boyfriends father (Howard) used to passenger for TT winner Warwick Newman as well as Bernard Oneil from South Wales firstly on an imp powered chair then a OW31 Yamaha powered chair.
Howard partnered Warwick for a couple of meetings including the Southern 100 at Billown.

Anybody remember Bernard or Warwick? Or even have pics from the day (mid 70s to mid 80s)

I remember Warwick all right, for years he rode the Cradley Heath Kawasaki while brother Steve and I were running Kawasakis with John Derbyshire chassis. We had many great battles with Warwick, he was a proper racer and a gent.

Oh do I remember Warwick, I rode with him from 1979 to 84, on the Cradley Heath Kawasaki and then a Yam. I remember Warwick saying he'd raced an Imp, seem to remember a Howard, was he Welsh ? skinney with a beard. (thats me in photo, southern 100 1980))can you post any pictures. last time i checked Warwick was on facebook, Mick Boddice is still in contact with him.

Howard is still in contact with him, they will be meeting up at Aberdare Park this weekend! Yes that would be Howard! He may have even sponsored Warwick whilst you were passangering for him! 'Smiths auto salvage SAS'! I've heard lots of positive things about Warwick and look forward to meeting him for myself!

Had a great 5 years with Warwick, he was even my best man in 1982, mind you that could just mean i had few friends,lol. I think it wa showard who crashed at Cadwell and was given the all clear by the hospital and proceeded to drive home, was in so much pain had to teach girlfriend or wife to drive the van on motorway. Went to hospital and found he had a serious break, hip or leg. Did he use to have two small dogs. Give my regards to Warwick, and thank him for the good times from me. Alan

That's crazy he was your best man! I'll definitely mention you when I meet him! See if he has any stories! Haha That's right. He broke his femur! Just asked Howard and he remembers you well anyway!

Warwick .Was a regular at Aintree in the 80s always turned out immaculate and a good hard racer hope he is well

We used to do the National championship, but warwick liked Aintree, we had good friends Des Founds, Les Hurst, Colin Hopper to name a few.

Alan, I would stand corrected but I think in 1980, in the consolation race, Des Founds was the winner (I can't remember his passenger's name damn it), brother Steve and I were a close second and Warwick and yourself a very close third with Rod Bellas and Geoff Knight fourth. I was the battle of the Kawasakis. How are you keeping?

Yes seems right, we blew the race motor in the heat and Des lent us a standard Z1000 motor ?

Sat on the grid with them a few times. Bought our second Ireson from Warwick (our first Ireson was ex Derek Jones purchased from Mick Barton)

Hi Merv, just to correct you, i passengered Rod Bellas in 1980. We finished about 8th, pushing over the line with a blown engine from Castletown corner.

Jim Craig was passengering Des Founds in early 80's (he was when we used to do Aintree), remember the Cradley Heath Kawasaki's running there also, rocketships ! great days be interesting to know where the outfit in the picture is now ......... proper sidecar !!
