Preview from Mark Walters

Most, Czeck Republic.

Preview.

It has been a good few weeks since the last round of the FIM Sidecar World Championship.

Round three will be held at the 4.212 km circuit of Most, in the Czech Republic. Like all rounds there will be two races over the weekend, a 10 lap sprint race on the Saturday 22nd, and a 17 lap race on the Sunday.

The last round at Sachsenring in Germany turned out to be a double race winning weekend for the now championship leaders Harry Payne and Kevin Rousseau. A great weekend for the team. They were in great form all weekend and will be wanting to continue their winning ways in Most, they have done a lot of work to their machine over the last months and it seems to be paying off for them.

Payne and Rousseau have 75 points; this is a slender lead over the second place team of Markus Schlosser and Luca Schmidt, who have 72 points. Not too shabby for a team who came to the first round in Le Mans just to test the new Hoosier tyres. It will be interesting to see how the team get on in Most as they have been working on improving their main fairing air intake over the last couple of weeks.

The Christie Brothers Sam and Tom come to Most in third spot in the championship with 65 points, they had a good meeting here last year standing on the podium, they will be hoping for the same again.

With only 10 points separating the top three teams in the championship, it will be a weekend for the teams to be on top form.

Only one point off the top three is Todd Ellis and Emmanuelle Clement. They struggled in the first race at Sachsenring, but they were back fighting at the front in the second race. A good weekend here in Most for the team could get them back fighting for the championship, after the team’s performance last year with top podium placings, they will be hoping for the same again.

Pekka Paivarinta and Adam Christie are fifth in the championship standings with 46 points. Paivarinta stood on the podium here last year with his then passenger, Dutch lady, Ilse de Haas, that was in race one, race two was a disaster for them when their engine blew up in dramatic fashion. Paivarinta and Christie have done a lot of electrical work to their machine over the last couple of meetings; they will be looking for good results here in Most.

The French father and son team, Ted and Vincent Peugeot are 10 points down on Paivarinta and Christie, they have had a mixed season so far but when they are trouble free the team look good on track and have the pace to stay with the top teams.

Bennie Streuer and Kevin Kolsch have 34 points in seventh place. If it had not been for a rear tyre deflating in race two at Sachsenring resulting in the team running off track and having a DNF I am sure they would have been further up the championship table.

Lennard Gottlich and Lucas Krieg have 29 points and sit eighth in the championship. The team were disappointed with their performance in Sachsenring, especially as they know the track well. They will be looking for a better weekend here in Most

The French pairing, Paul Leglise and Marjorie Cescutti have 24 points, they have been working hard on their machine trying to get a good setup, they have enjoyed their championship so far although they are not where they want to be in the championship standings.

Lukas Wyssen and Ema Salmon have had a mixed season so far, fighting for a podium spot at the first round in Le Mans they picked up a ride through penalty for working on their machine on the grid outside the allocated time, and then a DNF when they had a mechanical fault left them well down on championship points. There was talk that Salmond would not be able to contest the weekend in Most, but this might have changed now. Let’s hope she will be able to compete.

Brothers, Sam and Jack Laidlow have been improving with every meeting they attend; the young team is certainly making their presence felt in the championship. They will be on a high too coming to Most just after a double win in their domestic British championship which they are leading too.

There are three teams all on 12 points so far in the championship, Patrick Werkstetter and Valentine Pirat, Rupert Archer and Ruben Janssens, and Kevin Cable with Charlie Richardson, these three teams will be wanting to try and break away from each another in the championship.

Robert Biggs and Ferry Segers round off the top fifteen places in the championship, they have 11 points. I don’t think they will be contesting the weekend in Most.

Let’s hope the sidecar teams have a good weekend and the weather is kind for them too.

Qualifying one report from Mark Walters

Quilifying One. Most.

“Schlosser and Schmidt setting the pace”.

It was very hot and muggy for Q1, just as it was in free practice.

Marcus Schlosser and Luca Schmidt were first out on track, a good clear track, they went for it and no other team troubled them. They had no machine problems, and at the end of the session the team were really happy with how things went. They set a time of 1:41.789.

The next four teams are all in the 42’s. It was quite busy on track early on in the session, resulting with some teams coming into pit lane and driving through just to get some clear track.

Harry Payne and Kevin Rousseau set the second fastest time a 1:42.195. They were a bit down hearted with this, but will rectify for tomorrow, and they hope it will be dry. There are reports of heavy rain and wind during the night, let’s hope not!

Sam and Tom Christie set the third fastest time, a 1:42.198. They were happy with this and had no machine problems. They will also hope for dry track tomorrow for Q2 and try to improve their time.

Pekka Paivarinta and Adam Christie set the fourth fastest time a 1:42.783. Again the team are happy with this, they will check over their machine and see if they can improve in Q2

Todd Ellis and Emmanuelle Clement set the fifth fastest time a 1:42.889. They were trying really hard throughout the session, but just could not get the time they wanted.

Apart from Schlosser and Schmidt there is nothing in it from second to fifth, but also these teams are not far off the time of Schlosser and Schmidt.

Bennie Streuer and Kevin Kolsch set a time of 1:43.501 for sixth. The team had no machine problems and will be making small adjustments for tomorrow.

Seventh place goes to Patrick Werkstetter and Valentin Pirat a great Q1 for the team, and they are really pleased with this, they set a time of 1:43.536.

Ted and Vincent Peugeot are in eighth spot with a time of 1:43.844. The team are happy with this.

Ninth place goes to Lennard Gottlich and Lukas Krieg, a time of 1:44.137. They were not too happy with this and will be trying for better tomorrow.

Rounding off the top ten is Paul Leglise and Marjorie Cescutti, they set a time of 1:44.752. They were happy with this and will have another go to improve tomorrow.

It is close at the top, but all teams will hope for dry conditions tomorrow so they can try and improve their lap times.

From Mark Walters

Most. Q2.

“Schlosser and Schmidt tops”

There was a lot of rain through the night in Most, the morning is fresh, with a small breeze and sunny.

Once again it was Marcus Schlosser and Luca Schmidt who topped the timesheet; they set a time of 1:41.489. This was faster than yesterday’s time. The team are very happy with this, but on their last qualifying lap they hit engine problems, so the team now are working to change engines.

Harry Payne and Kevin Rousseau went faster today too; they set a time of 1:41.540. They are not far off Schlosser and Schmidt’s time. They were happy with this and this was on old tyres too.

Sam and Tom Christie have the third fastest time, a 1:42.002, again faster than yesterday. After the qualifying session they found their machine had a very small water leak. They are investigating where this problem is before the race this afternoon.

A good Q2 for Bennie Streuer and Kevin Kolsch, they moved up to fourth spot with a time of 1:42.469. The team are happy but want a bit more, they are looking forward to the race.

Pekka Paivarinta and Adam Christie slot into fifth spot with a time of 1:42.769. They changed the gearing of their machine overnight but they were not too happy with how this went, they will decide whether to go back to what they had.

Todd Ellis and Emmanuelle Clement are not having a good qualifying, they went slower in Q2 than Q1, their time was 1:43.389. The team just don’t seem to be getting a good feeling with their machine. They hope the race will go better for them.

The times are close throughout the field. The top five are close, then the next group not too far off the leading group, is close too.

Werkstetter and Pirat, the Peugeot’s, Gottlich and Krieg, the Laidlow brothers, Leglise and Cescutti are all close. Wyssen and Salmond did not make Q2; they found an engine problem just before heading out on track. If all is good with them for the race they could be mixing it with this group, six teams.

Another group with similar times and are usually up for a good battle is, Archer and Hofer, Cable and Richardson, Venus and Sedlacek, Vinet and Marsal, Leguen and Conil. This is also Ondrej Sedlacek home GP, he will be hoping for a good race and result here.

Race one will start at 14.55 local time, it will be 10 laps.
