Race one report from Mark Walters

Most, race one.

“Schlosser and Schmidt take race one win”

The sun was shining and there was a nice breeze for the 10 lap race in Most for the FIM Sidecar World Championship teams.

As the lights went out it was Marcus Schlosser and Luka Schmidt who were to come out of turn one in the lead, but this was very short lived as it was Harry Payne and Kevin Rousseau who took the lead out of turn two. The Christie Brothers, Sam and Tom slotted nicely into third, it was a right old have a go after that, but it probably was the result of Lukas Wyssen and Ema Salmon blasting into the first corner, locking all brakes up and nearly having a spin. Pekka Paivarinta and Adam Christie were next up with Todd Ellis and Emmanuelle Clement way out on the outside getting good drive to pass Patrick Werkstetter and Valentine Pirat who got a great start. Bennie Streuer and Kevin Kolsch were to come out of turn two next with their sidecar wheel arch all broken. Paul Leglise and Marjorie Cescutti were next up; their fairing at the front was all pushed in. Lennard Gottlich and Lucas Krieg were next. Sam and Jack Laidlow were right on the tail of Gottlich and Krieg with the Peugeot’s, Ted and Vincent next. Rupert Archer and Thomas Hofer were next leading a four bike train, Claude Vinet and Leane Marsal, Markus Venus and Ondrej Sedlacek, kevin cable and Charlie Richardson, who had a really bad start, they were followed by Pierre Leguen and Clemant Conil.

Out at the front it was Payne and Rousseau who were setting the pace with Schlosser and Schmidt a good two the three bike lengths back from them and it was the same for the Christie brothers they too were about the same distance back.

Paivarinta and Christie were holding their own in fourth but Ellis and Clement were closing them down.

Streuer and Kolsch were managing to keep a good pace despite their damaged wheel arch.

There was a fair battle going on behind them, between the Peugeot’s and Leglise and Cescutti, the Laidlow Brothers, Werkstetter/Pirat, Wyssen/Salmon, Gottlich/Krieg.

Archer and Hofer were staying out in front of the next group battling away, Cable and Richardson fought hard and managed to get up to the front of this group, Venus/Sedlacek, Vinet/Marsal, these three teams were starting to get a away from Leguen/Conil.

With two laps to go Schlosser/Schmidt caught Payne and Rousseau and made the pass for the lead, they pulled out a gap and this was to stay like this till the chequred flag came out. Schlosser and Schmidt were also credited with the fastest lap of the race, a time of 1:41.441.

The Christie Brothers Sam and Tom took third with Ellis and Clement fourth, they did manage to catch the Christie’s mid to three quarter race but just could not get right up with them.

Paivarinta and Christie took a lonely fifth place with the team wondering why their speed was down.

Streuer and Kolsch battled on to take sixth place but the team were not happy with what had happened at the start of the race.

The Peugeot’s took seventh ahead of Wyssen and Salmon with Leglise and Cescutti ninth.

Gottlich and Krieg rounded off the top ten.

After a great start to the race Werkstetter and Pirat fell back through the pack but still a good eleventh place for them.

Archer and Hofer took twelfth, they were happy with this.

The Laidlow Brothers Sam and Jack took thirteenth, they were in a good battle midfield, but at the end of the race they were passed by Wyssen and Salmon, still with Wyssen and Salmon the team out braked themselves going into a corner and spun leaving them with this position, but still the team were happy with this result.

Cable and Richardson battled their way up to take fourteenth place, the team were happy and enjoyed the race.

Venus and Sedlacek took fifteenth with Vinet and Marsal sixteenth and Leguen and Conil seventeenth.

Tomorrow there will be a 17 lap race starting at 12.25 local time.

“Schlosser and Schmidt masters in Most”

The sun was shining and a good crowed had gathered to watch the 17 lap sidecar race in Most.

The lights went out and it was all go, not like yesterday the start was all clean, it was still tight though through the first couple of corners.

Harry Payne and Kevin Rousseau took the lead from Marcus Schlosser and Luca Schmidt, Sam and Tom Christie were next up. Pekka Paivarinta and Adam Christie were alongside Bennie Streuer and Kevin Kolsch running up to the first corner. Todd Ellis and Emmanuelle Clement were winning the drag up to turn one from Patrick Werkstetter and Valentin Pirat, Ted and Vincent Peugeot were making a move on Werkstetter and Pirat too. Paul Leglise and Marjorie Cescutti got ahead of Lennard Gottlich and Lucas Krieg, but this was going to be three bikes heading into turn one, the Laidlow Brothers Sam and Jack, with Lukas Wyssen and Ema Salmon alongside. Rupert Archer and Thomas Hofer just had the jump on Kevin Cable and Charlie Richardson. Markus Venus and Ondrej Sedlacek were next up with Claude Vinet and Leane Marsal just in front of Pierre Leguen and Clemant Conil.

Throughout the whole race there were three groups battling it out. The leading group consisted of seven teams, evenly matched, but passing and re passing was going on throughout the 17 laps. The next group there was five teams scrapping for top honors. At the tail of the field there was Archer and Hofer, Cable and Richardson, Venus and Sedlacek, Vinet and Marsal, Leguen and Conil.

Lap eight saw Venus and Sedlacek pull out for a DNF.

As the front teams battled it out, Wyssen/Salmon and Gottlich/ Krieg got the better of Werkstetter/Pirat, as did the Laidlow Brothers on Leglise/Cescutti.

As like yesterday’s race Payne/Rousseau led throughout but Schlosser/Schmidt stuck with them. In the closing stages of the race the leading pair made a small gap on the perusing teams, but they managed to get back with the pair out in front, closing up the gap again.

Schlosser/Schmidt were playing the waiting game and as the freight train appeared out of the last corner it was them who took the race win from Payne and Rousseau, it was close though, 0.268 separating the two teams.

The Christie Brothers managed to keep Ellis and Clement at bay for another third place. Ellis/ Clement, fourth. Paivarinta and Christie took fifth place.

Streuer and Kolsch took sixth with Ted and Vincent Peugeot just behind in seventh.

Wyssen/ Salmon, Gottlich/Krieg and Werkstetter/Pirat all had a good battle till the end.

Sam and Jack Laidlow fought hard throughout the race and finished in eleventh place in front of Leglise and Cescutti, twelfth.

The next four teams were pretty well spread out by the end of the race, but they all fought throughout the race.

Archer and Hofer took thirteenth, Cable and Richardson, fourteenth, Vinet and Marsal fifteenth, with Leguen and Conil sixteenth.

The spectators showed their appreciation after the race to all teams on their slowing down lap, clapping and cheering the three wheeled charioteers.

The next round will be in Assen, the Netherlands, in the middle of August.
