CRMC New Eligibility Rules
Re: CRMC New Eligibility Rules
See Steve and I thought we were talking engines not every part of the bike, because inlet manifolds are not engines so dont start another thread or we will be here all year

Re: CRMC New Eligibility Rules
the first Weslake parts to arrive were 700cc conversion for a triumph bottom end.i had one,i upped this to 750cc with a Norton crank, after that i purchased a complete 750cc Weslake, Bill Currie raced the works 850cc,also Dave Nourish produced an iron barreled 900,which is well documented and all evidence was produced at an AGM, All within the classic period. I also remember that Dave also had some paperwork concerning the 950cc engines. engines in the period had a 1300cc limit, there were people who got Triumph twins out bigger than 900, most every type engine available at the time was made bigger. The engines we currently run in the club seem to be fairly well balanced, but maybe we should get together and formulate a definitive set of rules, which would make Ian's job a lot easier. some body earlier spoke of the difference between classic and f2 chassis,an f2 has a wider track width, the front wheel is inboard of the centre line through the back wheel also the tyre width makes the overall wider, and a far bigger s/car wheel lead. some classic's have wide track and front wheel inboard of centre line of rear, these things were done in period, i have helped to build bikes like this with Jack Rook And Mike Harris

Re: CRMC New Eligibility Rules
'So why do we have 1200 Imps and 950 Weslakes - because the rules, written by others, say we can!'
Not guilty for that one Mr Johnson
Furthermore, in the hope of clarifying matters, the belt drive idea was adopted because someone wanted to run a Manx solo with one and thus adopted generally. Same with 'silhouette' racing, if it looks right from however far away then it is right, that was IIRC again a solo thing for Manxes then being developed and the use of 'larger' internals - don't get me started on that topic please ...

It is true about the sidecar family - you can stop racing but you can never, ever leave!

Re: CRMC New Eligibility Rules
Wow what depressing reading all this is. Can't we all just go out and race and have fun like we did last year? I do hope anyone not involved with classic racing reads this thread and makes incorrect conclusions. The FACT is we have a very healthy grid, quality outfits that comply with the rules and have FUN putting on a good show with close racing, great sights and sounds that do a good job of portraying how classic racing was.

Well written Ian Tapsell. In all the years we have been with the club we have never had an eligibility man with such enthusiam and personality hence the boosted grids. Just think back to what it was like before he took over,he is only doing the job to his best ability .

Ian (Tapsel) has my old Grandma used to say " You cant make an omellette without breaking a few eggs" It's a healthy discussion, and I know we are still all friends. So as Geoff Knight said " On that note I will wish you all a happy new year"

Re: CRMC New Eligibility Rules
Discussion is the best way of sorting possible problems, shouldn't be depressing Ian ( Tapsell ) rather than remaining silent and letting things fester and get blown out of all proportion,we have all been able to air our view,s in an adult fashion with i hope no animosity.I for one will always challenge if i think things are wrong. At this moment things seem to be ok, Sidecar Bloke is doing a great job bearing in mind that he was not around in period but he listens and learns very quickly and i will help him if needed as i am certain a lot of others will. if we nit pick i think we will find something wrong or not to another competitor's liking with every bike on the grid but don't let's go there lets get on with having FUN!!!!!!

Re: CRMC New Eligibility Rules
Help, When I get the old Harley up and running again this year will it be Ok to fit the Data-Logger inside the new replica 8 speed gearbox,of course I`ll have to camouflage the quick shifter,I`ve already hidden the ECU inside the airbox that covers the disguised fuel injection, and as for the traction control well you`ll never find that, and mine definately comes in the ten pace rule cos its always covered in leaked oil,(genuine castor though)

Re: CRMC New Eligibility Rules
Fair point well made John - was just concerned how the posts may be taken from those not directly involved. It is great that people like yourself are still actively involved and have a direct knowledge of what was done and is prepared to share it.

Re: CRMC New Eligibility Rules
Wow.........
After reading that lot I wonder if our BMW is alright to do a few meetings on this season? Until it gets sold that is?
Looks to me by the size of grids you now have as though the current main man Ian has done & is doing a fantastic job.......
Good on you Ian

Not going to try and add anything to what has already been written except a brief word for Ian Johnson.
Don't let anyone grind you down, keep doing what you are doing and enjoy your racing.
Thanks for all your hard work so far!

Its because I don't have that chain round my neck anymore I don't have to please anyone by saying yes or no, I think you can see it in Ian's replies that it get to you in the end, Don't take any of it to heart Ian its all part of the job. I think Ian does a very good job and he will get better and better he has all my full support in all he does
