Don't think he had his brother passengering - might have been Barry ?? something - I seem to have Mansfield in my head as where he was from - and if I remember right - when he packed up - he was intending to emigrate (Aus I think)
The one I'm thinking of had an immaculate new red / white / blue Ireson for that championship year.
Also seem to remember about the same time Nelson / Camp came in to F2...
Yes - ACU clubmans - there used to be the British Champs proper - and the second level clubmans - if you were on with Joe Martin at the time (88/ 89 / 90 ?) we had a good do with him at an early season Snetterton meeting around that time - just beating or getting beaten over the line (can't remember which) for - I think - 5th place.
Marlboro jobby?
There was a "Shell" sponsored championship around that time too - don't remember details - only that you had to wear a shell sticker - and use their oil...

Thought it might be

Any idea what class he's intending to run in ? - just had another thought - was he sponsored by Metmachex - or am I thinking of someone else ?

Did Dave Smith have a 350 Ireson - late 80s / early 90s ? - if I remember correctly there was a Dave Smith around then that won the "Clubmans" championship ? - could it be the same man - or is my memory failing me ? - anyone ?

I guess he had to go get "licenced" to test at Mallory ? (or can you test on a road licence ?) - if he has had to get a new ACU licence - then of course it's gonna have to be put to use
uups makes him sound old

He is old
We had a visit from Dave & Dave at Cadwell - Dave hasn't changed much ! - and was introduced to Dave - who I had not met before - had a very interesting natter - there was plenty of time because of the fog delay...
I hadn't seen Dave since he packed up in the early 90s - good to catch up after so many years
