Just spoken to James.

He is getting a Halo brace fitted and getting some bone strengthening work done today.

He is on Ward 17, Leicester Royal Infirmary, Infirmary Square, Leicester LE1 5WW.

Best of luck with the healing guys. try eating a high protein diet drink plenty of water/milk and take vitamin supplements lay off the ciggies n booze this is a must. try and do as much exercise as you can n keep as active as possible. i was told that muscle starts 2 waste in the legs after not using them 4 more than 48 hours. and can vouche 4 this  . keep focused n mentally positive and talk 2 ur friends n family or nurses about any probs or fears u may have. keep all ur pin sites clean and do this daily i found it cheaper to use savlon wound wash spray n plain makeup remover wipes, than buying the sterile packs n saline solution. they cost a fortune when u add it all up over time. hope this helps, all the best lads :)

Just spoke to the hospital as I was going to visit tonight and he's still waiting for his op, should be going down soon, but they've said that before! Went in to see him last Friday and apart from a nasty black eye, his rugged good looks have not been affected too much  He was in quite good spirits then, so by now he must be quite bored of laying on his back, counting the holes in the ceiling tiles. I'll go and see him tomorrow night and then update you all afterwards.

Just heard about the accident today. Glad to hear that David's o.k. but sorry to hear about James. Hope everything goes well with the op. Best wishes to both for a speedy recovery.

Hi Sue,

I've been to see him tonight. Op was cancelled at the last minute again.

He should get the arm sorted tomorrow.

James has finally had the op to clean up his arm, although they now think it might need a skin graft. You've guessed it, he'll have to wait for another op, wonder how many times that will get cancelled!! He is still in really good spirits and is able to have the bed raised so that he can sit up a bit. Due to his halo brace he can't see much, but at least the swelling has gone down on his eye. He's still hoping they will let him transfer closer to home soon, but I think they are still waiting for his back to stabalise a bit more before moving him.

He was telling us how he instructed the person fitting his brace to balance up screwing in the screws before tightening them, to make sure it was on straight (ever the mechanic). He will have to keep that on for about 3 months, so looks like he won't be racing this season. He thinks he might be able to sneak past me with a helmet over it to get out on track  Strangely enough, I think I might notice that James. He had a good chat with Mike about bikes and racing and we'll be in to see him later in the week and update you then. He's grateful to everyone for staying in touch and can't wait to see all his mates. Must be boring for him with only the good looking people like Simon and me visiting.

Just got back from afternoon visiting and James is looking much better. They have managed to get him out of bed to sit in a chair for a while. He is off the morphine but is obviously on some stong pain killers. He keeps trying to get us to smuggle him in some beer, but I think that will interfere with your medication James ;)

Seems there is not a suitable hospital close to home to transfer him to, as it needs to be able to cope with spinal injuries. It was good to see him actually being able to move a bit, all he wants now is a decent curry apparently. So we might have to try and sneak him out for a takeaway as soon as they let him ride in a wheelchair.

Went to visit yesterday.

I've never seen so many snacks and drinks beside a hospital bed. Looks like he's opened a tuck shop.

He's managing to walk a short distance which is good to see. Can anyone let me know if they can visit Tuesday/Wednesday as I am working away?

As Sue has said, it doesn't look like they are going to be able to transfer him anywhere soon and he has no family within 150 miles.

Hi Simon I can go down to see him Tuesday or Wednesday if thats ok, I was going to ask if he wants anything but as you say he has his own tuck shop. It will be evening time, whats the parking like around there. Let me know if he does need anything.
