The Dunlop and the Avon are control tyres for the Classic/Historic Formula Ford 1600 classes of which there are millions still racing.

Re: CRMC New Eligibility Rules
I knew someone must make a 12" as a French couple I know who now own and race the exQuaife sponsored Windle (ex Ledermann) have 12" wheels. I was just given the impression that Avon were the only supplier of a suitable 13" - a fact that could be crucial in any future rule changes possibly?sidecar bloke wrote:And a 12" but don't tell Simon or Dave!

Re: CRMC New Eligibility Rules
Seems to me the guy's who run 10" wheels dont want the 13" inch wheel brigade to have a choice !
Ian, Page 447 Demon Tweeks new catalogue. Lists the Yokohama A048R has been described as a tyre ideal on both wet and dry surfaces. Quote " The A048R gives superior controllability when challenging the limit " ON BOTH DRY AND WET SURFACES" So to say it is only suitable for dry conditions is incorrect. I think Ian you should measure the contact patch on one of these tyres fitted to a 7" rim you will find it is exactly 5.5" bringing it within the CRMC rules.

Re: CRMC New Eligibility Rules
On the contrary choice is fine BUT within the rules - simples! And as an aside what vast choice is there for 10" wheels then? I have only seen Yokohama and Dunlop?

Re: CRMC New Eligibility Rules
The only chassis that looks and seems to work right with 10" wheels are fitted wth twin cylinder motors! such as the Nourish of nick's, or maybe a BSA twin etc. The rest just look well under tyred somehow!

Re: CRMC New Eligibility Rules
Why all of a sudden is there a hoo ha about choice seems to me we raced happily on the Old green spots for many a year, only went to Yoko Ono`s cos they are cheaper and I`m mean, classic racing seems to be getting to the point where the smart money always wants an edge, we`re racing old stuff for Gods sake ride it like it was in the day

Re: CRMC New Eligibility Rules
baffle's me this arguing about control tyre's half the time you can't get them for some unexplained way or another ,then when you can they are twice the price what i pay for a 13inch yoki ring up demon tweek's they have load's 3 compound's brill in the wet far better than your dunlop's or avon's how can that be unfair the only thing unfair is what you pay for them! will somebody come to their sense's and see sense on this or do they think everyone can just pay up or shut up!!and as for the ao48r being to wide well iv'e measured the tread indent twice now and it's 5.5 across the mark's left on the floor yes the tread doe's go round further on the tyre but what's running on the ground is 5.5 wide.
