Dick They all love you in Chimay, and I do too. However it would be great to see you on the Island in may. Especially if you are sat on your bike at the start of the TT Classic. You can even run them Yoko's there too.

yes it would be great to be back on the island either on a modern or on me bmw ,sadly it will never happen my money just limit's how much i do in a season and it just will not stretch that far ,i can do 4 or 5 cotinental meeting's for what that ferry bandit's charge so i'm afraid it will never happen ,unless the fairie's give me a visit

and ed do'nt get me going on the yoki's cos of the head in the sand attitude!!

Dick, obviously I know nowt as well,

I have been told that the main objection to the Yokohama tyres was not so much the size but, that unlike the Avon and Dunlop options which are made as 'Classic' tyres, the Yokohama tyres are actually a modern compound car wet tyre, as Ed said, this gives a significant advantage, especially in the wet. Apparently some think to be an unfair advantage and outside the 'spirit' of classic racing !! hey ho, what do I know. . . nowt !

Hi Wal, I don't think this is the case as this tyre is allowed by the CRMC if it is fitted on to 10" and 12" wheels.

They do not allow the teams using 13" wheels to use them. I don't know the reasons why.

Eddy,

The reason the 10" and 12" Yoko tyres are eligible is because they are 165mm wide, the 13" Yoko is 175mm wide hence to wide, it's that simple. Its nothing to do with compounds. However if you race the 16 incher you won't have to worry about Yoko's because they don't do anything that will get anywhere near your 16" wheel rims

You dont alter the rules!
The whole piont of Historic motorsport in general,is to race what would have been raced in the period your class is supposed to represent,and 175 section tyres are too B****y wide!
Do Yokohama do this tyre in a 155 or 165 section?If so that should be perfectly eligible.

No they don't Tony. Ed's point has always been that the contact patch is the same as the Avon.

A 175 section is wider than 5.5",at least it was when I ran minis.165 section is 5.5",and thats the end of it.Im a Toolmaker,and I can measure!If the Yokohamams were 165,like they are in 10",then theyd be legal,but there not.If people think the tyres are soo much better than the Avons,then use 10" or 12" wheels,and stop trying to change rules to suit themselves.
This never used to be an issue,until everbody decided to use 13" wheels.

Here is the yoko spec for ao48
175/60/13, rim size 5-6 inches,overall dimensions width180mm.7.1 inches, rolling circum1634.
185/60/13 rim size 5-6.5 inches overall dim width188mm. 7.4 inches rolling circum1677.
So as you can see they are to wide and the gauge has been in the club since Alan Bedfords day

so if i run 165/60r13 they will qualify,is this in the spirit of classic racing or do you spend £10000 on a morespend motor i seem to be missing something here?

Hi Eddy, No don't know, but I think it the rim size will make a big difference. If it is on a 6 inch the the tread on the road will be less because the tread will not be flat to the ground, but when the tyre is stressed it will pull this onto the ground. iF its on a rim that stretches the walls of the tyre this will make the tread flat to the ground and give a wider reading.
There are no rules on how much you spend on the inside of your engine but there are rules on the width of the tyres.

Ha! right, "in the spirit of classic racing"...were there ever 1000cc (or even more) Beemer engines before 31-dec-1972...

So "in the spirit of classic racing" would mean allowing BMW engines a max of 750cc, which would put everything in a whole new perspective...
