Can Anyone Date This Tubular Windle Racing in the States

I love this little bugger and with over 200bhp and CVT, it's an absolute rocket! I was just wondering what year it might have been built...the 70 0001 serial number made me wince! She'll be ready for Laguna Seca and the WSB event July 13!

The forks are Windle and as Howard says , Terry built only one Tubular and it was for a Canadian customer. Terry didnt realy want to build it but thats what the customer wanted . Didnt see it at the time but that could be it as it isnt a Baker or Jacobs, Ive had both of those over the years. Ill ring Terry and find out the year for you Henry.

Never Mind the Chassis, think about the engine !! Mike Richards and I have been talking about the prospect of using the big bore (200 bhp+) kettle engines that Suzuki produce for snowmobiles and the CVT drive for a number of years, what a fantastic package . . . . . . .but nowhere to race one in the UK ! . . . .sorry, don't you just hate rules !!

Mike is the guy to talk to about these things as he worked on factory snowmobile engine development over there for some time. I believe that contrary to what you would expect, those things accelerate from 0 – 60 in times nearing a F1 race car, and that's with CVT and on snow
Yamaha also do/did an awesome R1 derivative engine for snowmobiles.

Something different I worked at Arctic Cat on the snowmobile engines as Wal said, Arctic cat at the time where a third owned by Suzuki. The most powerful stock engine was an 1100 three cylinder two stroke producing 220 bhp at the crank I saw well over 270 bhp on a tuned engine in the engine cell.
I seriously thought about putting the 800 (160 bhp) or the 600 (135 bhp) two cylinder engines in a chassis I have photos somewhere of it mocked up and I could have had them for free
The cvt is very tuneable to your needs but takes a lot of power away. If you tune the CVT with different cones and tungsten weights you can keep the engine in the power band all the time
The stock engines by law had to be run flat out for minutes at a time and a duty cycle of hours

It looks like a Jean Guy Ractcllliff of Canada built outfit to me and like the one he built with an Arctic Cat 900cc motor. I stand to be corrected.

There's a Fiddaman (81?) over here running a SkiDoo LC triple in our 73 to 82 class. Not sure this one is a Jean Guy though. There is a tubular he built running in the F1 class.

I've had a call from the old man about this tonight and he's asked me to post this.

The chassis is a Windle and it's the only one we made, so a very rare thing indeed, some time around the early to '90's we think. Never one to keep records on what he's built or who for. However this he does remember as it went to Canada and was first ordered as a short outfit and then changed to a long tubular one. He picked Colin Jacobs brains for information so that's why it may resemble one of his. I remember working on it when it was in the work shop.

Yes a Windle, custom ordered by John and Art Dailey. They sold me their previous bike in the fall of 88. Then borrowed an Ian Fillery chassis for a couple of seasons. They brought that one out in 92. Definitely remember as they lent me a spare TZ crank in June 92 at Loudon when I bent mine Friday morning. That was the last race I did before "retiring". So I would guess built in 90 or 91 (a relative youngster over here).

Thanks so much guys, especially the Mr. Windles for setting this straight. She's a fine ride and after all these years she's still very competitive here in the U.S.! BTW: these Arctic Cats can be made BIG with big bore kits available out to 1800cc and pushing over 400hp! While that's a bit much for the road courses it's just perfect for the Salt Flats and setting Land Speed Records as well as putting down some incredible 1/4 mile times at the drag strip. Bolt on a set of Arctic Cat Tigershark watercraft 1100 jugs with porting and head work and the longer 800/900 stroke cranks and you've got 1150cc pushing a healthy and reliable 250hp @ 8,000 rpm. Out here you can buy used drag sled prepped engines with over 200hp for 1000 quid! Great way to keep the costs down and they don't scatter their oil pans all over the track. Thanks again!
