Surely its safer to have a rain light whether the regs say or not. They are not expensive so why the debate about whether to fit one or not?

Or dont race at events where modern bikes are racing.

After racing at Cadwell this weekend in a mixed grid, in some of the wettest conditions I have ever experienced. Then reading this post on my return made me think. I do think rain light's are a invaluable safety aid.
The F1 and F2 bikes with their rain light's were plain to see. The other classes without them were not. Surely there can be no objection to the fitting of a little red light that makes our sport safer.

After reading this thread I decided to pop down the town. The weather was atrocious and it was raining so hard it was hard to see which shop was which and had it not been for the bright red light above the door I think I would have walked straight past. Anyway, the lady was more than helpful but unfortunately had no red lights for sale, so I left with a big smile but no light... I tried!

I think they are a good safety aid and they are cheap and last for ever (John's do anyway), so I don't really see the problem.

I would imagine for ancient & modern racing together it would be even more important to fit one I cannot see what would be a sensible reason not to fit them to all racing bikes for use in wet conditions

I noticed some of the classics did have them fitted,at the weekend, but I did try to warn most of the Pc/350 guys to bear in mind some of them may not have lights fitted, and to ride accordingly if/when the rain came.
It has to be said Eddys right, why wouldnt you fit one?Its for your own safety,as much as anyone elses.

After further investigation:
Thanks to Dave Stewart who was at said ACU meeting along with Gerry Daine - and it appears the information I was given by our CRMC representatives at the meeting was not quite as accurate as it could have been, and although as Eddy says rain lights may be eminently sensible we DO have dispensation and therefore... DO NOT ... have to run them (until somebody changes their mind).
I apologise for all the confusion caused - I was just trying to impart information ASAP to assist the classic slidies.
So if John has sent me the lights, I will have them at Lydden - otherwise we will have to put his kind offer on hold until the day we DO have to run rain lights.
Ian
P.S. At least it gave the chance for one or two to have a good rant!!

This is useful information for the future, if you see a suspicious man lurking around the back of your sidecar when the ran lights are turned on dont worry just turn the light off and he should dissapear to the next red light in search for a 'big smile'

I agree that rain lights are good thing, I was just having a rant about rules, choosing to ignore fuel rule and then appearing to want to bring in a rule which does not apply to classics in ACU ruling. But I am very happy to fit one should the club require it. Safety First
