See the post from feb 2016 by Dan - he was pretty sure it was 1977.
In my book the first "modern rear exit" was the ARO / Fath from 1976, who else than Helmut would be involved?

It was 1975 or 1976, I had a break in 1977 from racing.

It was definitely 1977 when Brian & Colin first used the outfit and I passengered from April to September after Colin injured his hand early on at Cadwell Park

Brian Hoyle has just answered your question Ian. He passengered the rear exit bike from April to September in 1977.
