I think the problem might be that the rules are open to interpretation. That is very definitely the problem in F2. The rules state what you can't use not what you can. So if somebody has a new idea and people disagree the rules that are set don't cover it.
Was it done at the time, is it period? It's not simple but then again if there is no advantage from it and it is safer and cheaper then it would be kicking someone off the grid when they should be allowed to race in a lot of peoples' eyes.

Would you not call a lighter stronger chassis, bigger and modern tyres, and very large engines an advantage

Nothing wrong with Imperial valves,just remember you heard it here first there are things in life which will never catch on,the metric system, 2 strokes,mobile phones and while I`m being controversial there are 2 things in life that should never be given to Women.
