If Geoff had a vested interest ( as in business interest) I would think he would be promoting tuning engines that have more opportunity for a tuner to make money, with unreliability and more work to get them built and rebuilt?
Saying that capping this sort of thing sounds to me like someone turning work down, or is there another vested interest that I've missed Eddy?

No Eddy Ive no involment with anyone doing the TT. However in the short term (and there may not be a long term in this case) I dont think these ideas will do anything to help competitor numbers at the TT. Or reliability.

The point I was making is this. The cylinder head on a stock Engine is good enough as it is without any machining and porting. The heads are designed by the Japanese Manufacturers in their massive race and development shops. Honda have a huge budget and want the max power output with reliability.

I dont doubt a few more bhp can be squeezed out of them by a tuner upping the comp, and playing with the ports but this in itself reduces its reliability.

It makes perfect sense to me to use stock heads which are very good anyway, the engine will be more reliable, it will level out the field which is very important now, and it will save the cost of headwork.

I know those who make a living from tuning Engines will disagree with me but they would anyway. The ACU might be some things, but they are not stupid, and they want a Sidecar TT race with a proper grid, and competitive racing. We should all agree with that.

Standard heads wouldnt make anything more reliable. Engines will have the same compression and same valve to piston clearences as now. The machining will be done on the crankcases instead. I build Steve Kershaws Suzukis, there is no machining done to the head.

They wont be for 2012 geoff because the acu want a BOG STANDARD engine modded with the things that sidecars need sump etc etc .
Also the Revs you can increase kit ecus INC HONDA and ask the paddock there are very few who are pushing the revs to these as quoted 17000 figures .Why because theres no power there unless the engine is built to be .My rpm limit is soft limit 15000 hard limit 15250 .
Engine builders/Tuners dont want to get rid of Tuned Engines HHHMMM Wonder why.So they tell everyone about Its the ecus and Revs.If tunes engines arent faster /make more power then why have them done :?: :?: . Which dont get me wrong its business i understand that.

This is the CHEAPEST way for the majority to achieve the acus goal of slowing sidecars down.
Why because it will cost £250 - £300 for a second hand head they are available on ebay now
not the £2000 for a head as quoted to the acu recently
And whilst this is a blow i hope that we as racers can rise above it to keep our class alive

Can i also add these are my personal views and opinions and are not meant to offend anyone

Thank you Dean for putting my mind at rest,
I've just been thinking of a few of my mates who would like to race at the TT next year:
Andy King
Dave Kimberley
Mike Lines
Wayne Lockey
Rob Handcock
Mike Cookson
and ME,
We all run 2006 CBR600RR engines so we will need 2 each = 14 plus
2 spares between us (that is very conservative)
grand total 16 heads this year and complete engines next year.
If you just let me have the telephone number of the 'HEADS ARE US' sales manager I will get it sorted.
And the total needed will be more than that, there are loads more of us on 2006 Hondas.
I took the shell off my racing snail thinking it would make him faster.
It just made him more sluggish.

So only £600 for two heads -plus gaskets, shims & dyno time. I hope my bank manager is in a good mood!
No 06 CBR600RR heads on ebay when I looked.

Yeah i can see lots of heads with £1500 (Quoted price from Shirlaws) worth of titanium valves available on ebay for £300!!

No Suzuki K7/K8 engines available for us at the moment and hasnt been for the last 3 or 4 months!! Also no secondhand heads, a new head costs £1350 (Price quoted from Shirlaws today)!! Thats reality...

Yeah i know i'm not racing at the TT but i'll have to fork out £2700 to meet the new rules to race in the F1 class next year!! Cheap racing bring it on....

Btw people like my dad and Keith have been around for years, i think they know a thing or two about racing sidecars and what makes engines blow up!!

Come on guy's it's a no brainer. Dean is right, and you know what I agree with him. We have had a lot of anti data logging comments, but it's the single best thing you could fit, and even better you can transfer it from Engine to Engine. Forget all this porting, skimming, and machining malarkee it's just a waste of money.

If I remember correctly Dean you were telling us all how cheap Motec systems are. Then not so long ago (after the TT) you had one for sale for £ 4,000. Thats a lot of engine work in my book. Just ride a bit harder ,brake a bit later. Thats the cheapest way to go faster. ;)

geoff dont really feel like i have to defend myself because if you read my for sale advert properly then perhaps youd understand why its £4000 and if you look i never metioned anything about motec

And teamradar if you look at my post my question was ARE they available ,Because we certainly cannot go to the acu with an argument unless we have tried instead of being adverse to change

Phil this is what i do no credit crunch less sold less crashed less in breakers .....Battle of britain was hailed as being the saviour with the grading system etc .Are we now saying its a bad idea because you cant find a head .And anyway with having no entries to pay all year there should be some spare money in the pot ;) ;)
