What a bunch of wusses you all are. I raced classic outfits when they were modern and never had a start line incident. Push starts are the proper start procedure, you had to make sure the engine was set up properly and would start first time. I used to run an 11:1 compression ratio and 5 star petrol, it started first time every time, if you can't get the thing to turn over compression at the start then lower the compression.
I don't suppose push starts will be reinstated now because the grids are full of namby pamby pufter psudo racers.

666 reckons that push starts are the way forward. Generally I agree in principle but remember once on a grid a stroker when pushed fired up and promptly went backwards as the ignition timing was a tad sharp. Caused total mayhem

Got to agree with Bob, not only about push starts and balls, but another controversial point has been raised albeit inadvertantly,his experience on the grid with the stroker,so the old adage proved again to be true,

I remember, Craig was having problems with his bike getting it on to the grid at Brands. Geoff Bell let him his Windle Thundercat . Craig had never ridden anything like it before took it out won the race, and broke the sidecar lap record. The little shit !!
