Liking the pics of that engine! Personally not sure how classic it is, but that's REALLY not my forte ;

Steve, surely It is as classic as a newly manufactured Weslake or a TT Ind gearbox?

Strange you mention Weslakes Steve.
There was a debate in the late 80's, early 90's as to when the first full Weslake engine was run in sidecar racing.
George & Sue Derbyshire were trying to get the Weslake engine accepted by the Classic Club but were having trouble as to when the first was run & what CC the engine was.
Hope my dates are right :?

What really matters is that the sport should be the winner.

Happy Christmas everybody and a safe and successful 2013.

The first weslakes were run in sidecars in the very early 70s. Bill Curry had one, so did Mick Horspole.

The question was what date Eddy & what CC, the date had to be specific for the Classic Club.

If the new Konny engines are making the power they claim ,race them in open class club racing , as Dave Holden runs his 500. The power less Methanol and at the back tyre , instead of the crank , will be greatly reduced from the 160 + claimed but with its low weight and height it would do ok. Or wouldnt it , ;)

I bought a new 750 twin in 1973. So it will have been well before that. Bill Curry had a development Engine quite some time before they put the motors out to the rank and file. My guess is 1971.

Bill Currie & Gary Bryan were both racing the Triumphs with the kit top end ( Rickman ) in 1971.
According to Gary, Bill started the 1972 season with the kit engine but then late in 72 Bill got the full Weslake engine.
I remember being at the Silverstone International in August 72 with Bill Currie & Kenny Arthur & Bill defo had the kit engine in the outfit at that meeting.
After Gary's accident at Oulton park where he was paralyzed from the waiste, he went on to build the RGB Weslakes, he never bothered with the full Weslake motor but instead stuck with the Triumph bottom end, the rest is RGB history as they say.
