I dont want to sound paranoid, but I think the powers that be want rid of the sidecars in anycase.

Not just them. I wish they'd stop it so we can concentrate on the real sidecars. This is a PM right?

Re: 2011 TT
Std. engines
points against
1 Due to manufacturing tolerances two standard engines coming out of the factory could give large differences in power output, 10 to 15 bhp is not unheard of. This is because, again due to manufacturing tolerances, some engines come out of the factory with their reciprocating parts severely out of balance. This causes a loss of power and causes reliability problems.
2 To be competitive you would need to fit the most powerfull standard engine neccessitating a modified or new chassis. The most powerfull engine would change from year to year. Competitors with older tuned engines would be forces to buy newer standard engines.
3 Competitors with factory assistance would still get "standard parts" from the factory that just happen to be manufactured on the right end of the tolerance.
points for
still trying to think of something.

I took the shell off my racing snail thinking it would make him faster.
It just made him more sluggish.

Spot on Keith.
Has anyone got a list of reasons for the DNF's at the TT?
How many are actually engine issues?

I don't think it's short sighted to want to continue using what i already have and not have to find the money for extra engines.

Re: 2011 TT
Sorry to disagree with Kew. There are differences in ex-works motors, always has been but surely nobody is just gonna take a lump from a bike and stick it in
Have the thing apart, blueprint it and away you go
Another alternative is to have engines complete with ECU etc from a single supplier and have them sealed. No great problem. Surely cheaper in the long run than mucho tuning and big bangs, also siolves the problem of updated engines
I'll get me beret and sun tan oil ...

It is true about the sidecar family - you can stop racing but you can never, ever leave!

Hi Keith - as bob says - surely not going to just pull a motor out of a bike and use it ?kew wrote:Std. engines

I don't know how the rules in new F2 work - but I would think it quite acceptable to blueprint & balance a motor - after all - it's only putting it together the way it was meant to be ? - but with no aftermarket addition of parts...?
Going back to the start of the thread - OK - I can understand people not wanting to give up the engines they have (that could be got around) - but seriously - what other suggestions are there ? - as it is - the TT looks to be on shaky ground at the moment - and I doubt it's likely to cure itself...I am seriously concerned given the attrition rate this year. 56 entries, 37 starters, 24 finishers.
Also... all suggestions for how we get more people here gladly received.
2 strokes are the future...

Re: 2011 TT
Hi
i cant hear all the discussion about standart engines. Just do it, make it a rule, ready. All you competitors have not to discuss it. Organizers do rules, ready.
In Germany they have standart engines and it works. If you want to spend a lot of money into engines, on the other side you never tuch your shoks... very stupid. You payed for your Maxton stuff so let it work. It brings you much more time than engine tuning.
I run really standart, out from ebay for €uro 600.- and it is with the righ exhaust and airbox ( Pullan) the fastest F2 behind Klaffi ( tuned) in Salzburg. I am not looking for more power. I spend my money in tyres etc.
Come to Oschersleben in August 1st German Sidecar Festival) and you can find it out.
In the Sidecar Troiphy 2011, standart engines or no points.
Bye Eckart

Re: 2011 TT
The organisers wont get rid of sidecars. If they did what would they be left with. A two class TT. Away from the top ten the solos arent brilliant either. Like Ive mentioned before the 250s went when they only had 25 entries.
Dont forget the amount of people who come over with a sidecar team is normaly more than the solos i.e. more money spent over there.

Re: 2011 TT
I would'nt be too sure on that Geoff. The sidecars on the island are loved by some spectators but not all of them. The solo teams have more clout, and they want more track time.
Should BSB ever be included, and the sidecar grid continues to decline then we will be out. Even without BSB our track time is valuable to the big bucks solo teams, and we all know that Money Talks.
