Richard I would have no problem with push starts, but I think when you introduced them a few years back the grids declined. Grid position by ballot it's a lottery! but it's also exciting, and makes for interesting racing.

After studying the Eligibility rules I see that Dave Kay's MV Agusta engine is still allowed ( made eligible in 1984 ). To my knowledge an MV agusta, 4 cylinder or 3 cylinder was never raced in a sidecar? A Gilera 4 cylinder was. Surely a bike with " special dispensation " should be reviewed periodically?

Eddy. push starts are dead in the classic club and I don't think they will be back,(shame as they are period) and yes it is a lottery but it made good racing for the spectator, also not always the same teams won the races as it stirred up the grid

please excuse my ignorance.dosent the word classic mean over 20 yrs old,so surely any outfit from that era is a classic even an LCR from that period,and dosent that mean that Dave Kay's MV is a classic,
shame about the push starts,as said before they are period.

Sorry Bruce, twenty years does not a classic make. Machines re eligible up to '67 for smokers and '72 for diesels. Anything that is post classic as in the original definition;

Somebody will be along shortly to add on Periods 3 &4 8-)
It is true about the sidecar family - you can stop racing but you can never, ever leave!

Simply put, no Bruce. 'Classic' as a word means something that is a perfect example of a particular style, doesn't actually mean old.

As for CRMC, that is for the Club itself to define.

Have just spoken to Ian (aka Sidecar Bloke) Who has agreed to put the Yokohama AO48R rear tyre through a rolling test fitted to one of our current competitors rear wheels. He will measure the contact patch and if it's over 5.5" then it's ineligible, and I for one will accept that.

No one has given a reply to Dick Hawes post of last night. I can't comment on the BMW's or the IMP's but I can on the Weslakes. There was never a 950cc Weslake raced up to the cut off period of 1972. So as Dick say's, why are these engines eligable?

I think this is down to the CRMC to decide not us here. I'm enjoying reading the opinions of course but if the CRMC need somewhere to discuss this 'members only' I would be happy to set up an area on here with access only to members as guided by Ian.

Of course you do have the CRMC forum but I don't know how many here use it on a regular basis.

I have been reading, with a degree of sadness, the postings of late.

The CRMC sidecar grid has established itself, with the help of people like Dave Gristwood, as something we can all be proud of, regardless of what we race. However, some people seem to be out to tarnish this jewel - who knows why - let's just call it vandalism.

As Sidecar Eligibility Officer I have, as everyone else does, a set of rules, written initially by Mr Bird himself and modified over the years by others. If we read the words they state that engines in P3 which is Classic Open, have a 1300cc limit - nowhere in the regulations does it state that engines must run to a given cc presumed to have run in the period, nowhere. So why do we have 1200 Imps and 950 Weslakes - because the rules, written by others, say we can!
