I have acquired a gearbox (marked M30955 on the main case) which I believe to be Norton. I am disassembling it for inspection but the inner cover will only move away from the main case by about 1/4 inch. I have removed every fastener I can see and do not want to damage anything by resorting to the large rubber mallet.
Anyone have any ideas about what is stopping the case coming off and what the gearbox is?
I would put a photo on if I could figure out how to!
Cheers Shorts

You need to remove the clutch actuating mechanism, using an ali drift remove the large threaded boss. Underneath you will find the mainshaft lock nut, you will have to find a way to hold the mainshaft as the nut will be lock tighted on. Put the gear selector in neutral before removing the inner cover. Any problems come back to me
