Very sad news indeed. Came to know him quite well in early CRMC days - a superb commentator, witty, interesting and always well clued up. Had a very rare gift for a commantator - knowing when to shut up and when he had nothing to say that is precisely what he said.
RIP sir - a privilege to have known you.

How very sad. I worked in the commentary box with Allan at CRMC for a few seasons when I was a lot younger, a real Gent when he was meant to be 8)
Will miss his voice and character.

I rode in a time trial once that he was in, came out of the hairpin and thought I'd hit him up the back, went over to apologise after and he hadn't felt a thing (or wouldn't admit to it)

He was on a Norton thing and I was on the 250TZ, 1986 8)

Just found this link. Sad reading but a great illustration of the man he was and the void he leaves

Spoke to Allan recently and he was in good form as always albeit not in good health. For those that didn't realise he commentated for us at Drag and sprint events. He even 'bigged me up' at Peterborough speedway. Thanks Allan.

A great and recent pic of Allan from his site.
I love the quote "Lydden 2007. CRMC event and its fast aging commentator. Can make two flies on the Commentary Box window sound exciting!!". So very true and a fitting tribute.

I didn't know Allan but I have just been looking at his website and it strikes me he was the sort of man it would have been a pleasure to be aquainted with. He will be a great loss to the motorcycling world and will now be at that great race track in the sky waiting for Edgar Jessop to join him. Condolences to Allen's family and friends
