have you tried a battery straight to the starter(without the solenoid etc....)that way there is no voltage drop to anything else and then you can see what its doing by its self....i would try a set of jump leads to ya car/van battery without it running that is......

yes mate tried all that it just needs about 20 rpm more and itl start, aparently the cdi is set to 250rpm start threshhold, sounds stupid but if i could make the starter a 6v unit it will cure it.

You could try and make the battery leads as short as possible and use leads with lots of strands in the cable. that will eliminate volt drop.

cheers tufty for the chat at donno.did you sort your problem out?
anyway did what you said about the starter and stripped it,found it was clean(almost new like)brushes ok not burned in any way, comutator as new aswell.anyway swapped it for another one i got today..................still the very same
i also took the cover offand checked the thrust washers, there isnt any.i checked the manual and there isnt,my theory now is that the starter is ok but the cdi is maybee at fault, although i have tried another cdi.
24v starting is looking very appealing ;) ;)

Rather than using a motorcycle battery have you tried a car battery instead? Might be the fact the battery is not a high enough amp/hour rating.

what engine is it
Have you got a gasket fitted to the starter clutch side {Depending what engine}as that is the tolerance it requires to stop it tightening on the shaft for the starter gear !!!
because if youve put a battery straight on the starter motor and it wont turn over fast enough it could be an engine fault
Dream as if youll live forever and live as if youll die tomorrow.... Happy days
