Very nice. Has Ed ever thought of getting a job in the bike trade -I know a couple of people that might take him on

I've never taken that much notice of Imps before, in and out on the same side, how many engines are like that now?

He seems to have lost his memory Andy, y'know old age and all that so maybe you should enlighten us. When I asked him he started grinning and shook his head so it must be good......

I had an 875cc Imp back in 1979, Most unreliable thing on the road. Head gaskets, water pump, king pins, universal joints all failed on a regular basis. Where do you get hold of the engines nowadays, I would have thought they had all blown up by now!!!!

Yep, a lot different now! 1000cc I presume but what do they rev to and what sort of power output?
Ian.

A guy that we met at Scarborough has just rung, we're going to pick up half a dozen engines on Sunday!

Mine's a 1040, revs to 8,500 rpm and puts out about 100bhp I think.
It ran all season last year at all CRMC rounds and at Chimay without a problem. I did find a crack in the block during the winter rebuild which has been welded.
Ian tells me the most common problem is the con rod big end bolts breaking. Mine have been upgraded from 5/16th to 3/8ths.
I do find that the Norton clutch suffers a little with the power/weight.

I run two Engines (not at the same time) One is 1170cc which revs to 7500rpm The other is a 1040cc which revs to 8500rpm or 9000rpm when pushed.
They both develop similar power but the big engine has more torque. So far 100% reliable. They will run a season with the minimum of maintainance.
