Just sorting out stuff I came across a programme for the Bemsee Norwich Trophy meeting at Snetterton 21st March 1967,cost 2/6, and event 6 a 7 lap race for 3 wheelers over 350 and not over 1300cc,
No50 is S.J.Downes on his SJR Triumph passengered by one R Bird, if that is you then consolation I am entered on a 350 Manx later in the meeting so we are both past our sell buy`s

The bike which Steve was riding was one of two built by Jack Rook JSR the other was ridden by Ian McGee,I was helping Jack build chassis at that time, apart from s/car chassis he built several formula V chassis which won the Formula V British Championships

OK Peter, the real Bob Bird is standing up

That was me indeed on with Steve 'Upside' Downes from Dagenham. The SJR should read 'JSR' after the chassis built by Jack Rooke, one of the sweetest handling that I've been on for a 16 incher. It's the first time that I've had ever been told not to put too much weight over the back wheel

BTW for those who did not know me then I was a sylph-like ten and a half stones
Steve's previous outfit was an ex Bill Boddice of unknown vintage with a 650 Triumph, that was cut up and binned due to metal fatigue. I remember along the back straight on the old Silverstone club circuit watching one of the top tubes part up - in the middle

Tad unnerving that ...
