TRIDENT wrote:. I wonder what engine he will use, come on you top b.m.w. tuners now is your chance to see your motors win some races. :
Think you'll find that Matt Kingsmill and his passenger Alan won a good few races this year on there MR Equipe BMW, oh and the CRMC Championship.
Plus Hopefully we'll see more of John Perkins next year and when we do im sure he'll be winning or at the very lests on the podium with his MR Equipe BMW.

I think it will be an interesting year. It will be good having Colin Lewis on the grid and his old man Alsiter.

The engine thing is a dilema
I have the engines I am considering
BMW (980): Reasonably cheap to buy, good supply of secondhand bits

quite expensive to tune to be competetive. Reliable when tuned by the right people. 110 bhp at crank 18% loses in drive train.
Trident (bored to 930): Very expensive to buy and tune

Heavy

sit in chassis well

sound wonderful

Again reliable when tuned by the right people. Approx 100 bhp at crank 12% loses in drive train.
Honda CB 750 (bored to 830): Cheap to buy

cheap to tune

Very heavy, big lump

tubes have to go over engine / carbs

Dry sumped standard

Power to weight ?? 67 bhp at crank std 750 12% losses in drive train.

I haven't got an imp engine anymore Pete

Big lump with drive, expensive to buy / tune, I spent a fortune on liners / pistons / valves / block strengthening kit / cam on that engine I built then sold

But some people love em and Eddy goes really well on his

Mike you know the Trident makes sense

Expensive, well what can I say on that front

but as you say sound wonderful and when built buy someone who knows what they are doing reliable too

Honda engine weighing 13 stone

really - that would mean it is a heavy or pretty near the weight of a Trident and I can't see that

Crikey, this could be a grid full of Beemers next year
Glad to hear you'll be out there next year Mike, should be some battles going on. I promise me and Ed won't put an orange stripe down your bike

Why is it when you can bore Imps to 1200 and Trident/R3`s to 930,that a CB750 is only allowed to 830

Good question, which I dont know the answer to . But there is a Honda out there at the minute which is the fastest bike out there and that is entered as an "830". So if thats anything to go bye I think "830" is plently. I've got a 750 engine with 750/830/1052 top end but I am still not sure myself that an "830" will put out enough power 100 bhp + at the crank with such a heavy engine to be competetive. The engine is 67 bhp std

Have a chat with our engine builder Mike when u have some spare time or arrange to go see him for a chat. He'll answer all your questions about running and sourcing bits for a trident lump. There's already lots of beemers/imps and honda's out there. we need more variety.
