Geoff was one of the hardest and quickest riders in the mid 80s, on TZ750s. We had some great scraps with Geoff and Tony Baker at the time. When Geoff packed up ,mid 87 season he gave me his TZ750 motor and started helping us, the Windle chassis went to Scott Renwick. It was Geoff that first put the idea to me of having a go at the TT. If it hadnt been for him I might never have tried the mountain cicuit. As a past Southern 100 winner I asked Geoff why he didnt have a go at the TT. He said he couldnt trust himself. He then went on to help Vic Jefford and Peter Hill for a couple of years. He had an Audi Quatro at the time and ended up restoring three of them over the next few years. Geoff is now into classic bikes and we regularly see him at our end of season East Fortune meeting. He rides up on his 500 Gold Star and doesnt look much different.

Well said Geoff . I had the great pleasure of competing against Geoff Young at both Kirkistown in Northern Ireland and at the Southern 100 . Allthough i was only a passenger at the time i got to see this man in action on his Windle 700 , usually from behind him !!. I will allways remember the first lap of the Southern 100 1984 heat 1 if i remember correct ? They were the days when there was over 30 entries . Steve Sinnott and myself led off the line and got around the first corner in the lead . heading into the breaking area for the " Iron Gate ", Geoff and Julian Tailford dived up the inside and chucked it in full broadside !! how the hell he ever got around that corner i will never know . No wonder he never trusted himself to do the TT . He was a brave and great rider and a nice block as well . Nice to see his name remembered .

You got the passengers mixed up Al, or the Geoffs.

. Julian was on with me, Jimmy Cochrane was with Geoff. Geoff and Jimmy blitzed the Southern the next year, winning by a mile from Tony Baker and us.

Met Geoff when a few of us went up to stay with Vic in 1991. Vic took us up to Morpeth and we all went to a dance, Rob Fisher was there as well. Geoff was a nice lad
