Great idea. Make a nice big box,and then cut a big groove down one side for the tie bars!!! Maybe a sieve would be better.

Just saw this on Motoforum and jumped over here to double check...... kin eck ..... that will work..

Isnt the regs for containment that it will hold a certain amount of liquid ( oil)

not that it is a self oiling system for the back tyre ....................... if it was you could not design it better :-)

I've been looking at this. Does it hold 5 litres that size without the height at that tie rod level? If so then fair enough.

I like the idea of having - as in the photos, the alloy drip catcher to stop the oil dropping down the mudguard in the fairing and behind the back of the oil containment tray then onto the tyre, which I know happens on the Windle me and Phirrip had. So instead the deflector is putting it back into the tray which seems to be the idea of the post put up.

It doesn't look like it will hold 5 litres as it is to my untrained eye. That's another issue.

What I really like about this is that everyone who has posted agrees that keeping oil off the track is good and trying to find a way to get there :D (that sounded so schmuzzy american woo woo but you know what I mean, it's an inherited problem that we do need to put to bed).

me two !!!!!! , like the blokes bench it was sat on !

the big slot for the tie bars looks silly and pointless , why carnt it be solid and you just cut two 25 mm holes in it and have some rubber grommits in there instead of a big slot ????????????

Have to correct that. The Windle Phirrip had :D And I think it happened, either that or it just blew everywhere :P

The chain has got to fit through there as well Winnie. There is a similar problem with the engine mounts and water oil pipes on most LCRs. That one looks like a later model. It needs to be done though. See who can do the tidiest job. :D

Rosco's... now My LCR is alledged to... he reakons it passed the 5litre test..

must say oil containment... = nightmare can of worms :(

loads of absorbant nappy in strategic places does help as well.... funny enough still managed to cover the odd passenger in oil tho

Our one last year held just over 5 litres, but dont understand why it must have 2 x 25mm drain holes that can be open when wet.Do engines not blow up when its raining?

from dim and distant memory, diesel solos (that had belly pans ) had to contain a certain amount of liquid and had to have 25mm bungs that were taken out in the wet and was explained to me that a belly pan full of water in a solo aint clever to ride...
maybe that rule has been crossed over... seems a bit wierd cos a bit of water in yer catch tray on a sidecar when the Bombhole is 2ft deep torrent is the last thing on your mind.. ehhh Steve  .. but thinkiing on... the holes will let the water out.. the 3M nappy does not absorb water ???? but Does soak up the oil... so it probably works.............. a bit

So maybe solos should run nappy in their belly pans then..

Probably came as idea from solo regs originally. But also if your catch tray full of water the oil gonna just spill over the top more quickly than if going through small bung holes..... All makes sense if you stop and think about it logically.

Anyway, back to point. WE as a class, have to be seen to be doing everything possible to stop oil getting onto the race track. Solos gerally blow up and fall off within yards. Sidecars tend to do half a lap! So,
A] it's a major pain in the arse for Organisers to have to clear up after us
B] it's a major major pain in the arse for Live Broadcast TV schedules if we mess then up
C] it's a major pain in the wallet for us if we go off on oil that somebody else has dumped around the circuit!

So if we can try and make things better to assist the progress in terms of profile and events that the F1 sidecars are working towards - then we should all work towards that....... shouldn't we?

Or am I missing something here? Perhaps we are such a popular class that attracts big money sponsors, Manufacturers, Tv, Paying Spectators, and we can dictate our own rules to the circuits and organisers who are fighting over themselves to have us ........ like Mr Ecclestone ;)

Agreed Ian!! Back to topic...

Has anyone got any photo's showing how the LHS is sealed in with Engine mounts and Oil pipes etc (Old Chassis) at the base of the chassis??
