Geral de Hass

Geral was one of a respected list of passengers who were employed to replace Bernard Schnieders who was the tall passeneger for Dutchman Egbert Struerer but found it difficult to fill the great mans shoes.

I first came across Geral sat at the circuit bar at an early 90's end of season GP at Brno and asked him many questions relating to his position in the team and how he was accepted for the job in hand. I got all the answers I was hoping for But found his ambition to compete at the highest level some how stuck in the bottom of a Beer glass........

Don't get me wrong I love a beer as much as the next man but if you are gifted with a top ride a certain amount of self discipline should be the point of why you are there in the first place.

Geral spoke of having to escape through hospitality toilet windows to have a late beer while the rest of the team chilled out with a bottle or 2 of none alchoholic beer before retiring well before midnight....

Egbert and Geral had a bit of a whoopsy on the last lap or so on the up hill 'Esses' leading towards the final section of the lap,,,,it went spin /upsy downsy before continuing to the finnish,
Me and Mr Howells finished just out side the points in 16th place.... But in front of a former World Champion...Streuer and Hass .

Regards,

Fritz,,,,,,

He lives in assen. I bump in to him once and a while. Him and eggy don't really get along. He had another go at passengering in 2007. Van Gils did not have a passenger at eemshaven. Ballie as we call him thought after 13 years no racing racing and never been on a 4 stroke. That could just do that. 2 laps and he tapt up. His face gone totally White. He went home and after that he did no show at a race meeting anymore. Don't get me wrong I think in his days he was one of the best passengers around. He did like his drink. But he's oke now he dous a bit of classic racing as a driver. And he put on some weight aswell. Proper star.
