This is good news for the TT and sidecar racing in general.

Paul Phillips, TT and Motorsport Manager, Isle of Man Government, commented:

"I'm delighted that Dave is returning to compete and this is a real boost for the sidecar class. We saw some really close racing in the 2011 meeting and adding Dave to the field will only improve that further."

He continued:

"2012 is going to be a big year for the sidecar class at the TT. We have introduced new rules which will reduce costs for competitors so we are hoping for a larger field and close racing."

What are these new rules?

Just out of interest, how many competitors will have to acquire standard heads to replace the tuned ones they are now currently racing?
I'm not sure how that will save them money!!

Well pardon me for asking for information, As it happens, I did know about that rule change. What I didn't know was whether Paul Phillips was referring to some new rules, especially as he was talking about reducing costs.

No good worrying it's just another set of rules thought up by people who know nothing about the real costs of racing.

You can buy a £1000 set of con rods but you can't spend 5 minutes with a file taking the cast marks off the ports. :?

I never thought I'd say it but I'm fed up with the lot of it. I think I'll buy a solo.

Keith/Geoff,

This is off topic but Sidecar racing is dying rather rapidly. Cadwell Park is a good example at the weekend. The meeting was great but look at the grids 16 x F2 and 20 x F1. A few years ago there would have been none qualifiers in both classes!! If something isnt done to reduce costs quickly then we wont have any racing!!

In F2 racing its the cost of Engines (14k is the figures mentioned for one engine) and Engine management!
In F1 racing its Tyres!

I didnt agree with standard engines at one time but i was probably slightly biased as i didnt spend any money tuning engines but it hasnt done any harm to F1 racing. There will definately be a supply issue given we are relying on bike sales and crashes but with numbers probably at an all time low racing may be now is the time to change!
