Sidecar TT regs

Unread post by thirkell »

I have just read the regs for the TT look at the camshafts, (third point from the bottom) duration not standard, or am I misreading it

whats going on ?????

The only permitted engines for this class are:
• 501 - 600cc, 4 stroke, 4 cylinder, Production based
• Rotary engines are not permitted.
• Over-boring is not permitted.
• Induction systems:
• Carburettor Engines: Any carburettor is permitted.
• Fuel injection engines: Fuel injection systems are permitted using only the throttle-bodies as homologated for the engine concerned
• Everything above the head gasket must remain as homologated.
• Camshafts must be as homologated but timing and tensioning devices are free
• Everything below the head gasket is free,
• The injectors must be standard units as on the homologated engine.
• Butterfly cannot be changed or modified. Where fitted a secondary butterfly or slide may be locked in the fully open position.
• Any fuel pump may be used.
• Homologated fuel pressure must remain unmodified.
• The fuel ignition ECU and Ignition Control Unit may be changed.
• The camshaft duration is free but the lift must remain as homologated
• The cam chain or cam belt tensioning device is free
• Cam sprockets or cam gears may be modified or replaced to allow the timing of camshafts.

I know the early 600 yamaha factory race kit cams had the same lift as the std cams, but very different duration. Not sure about other engines, perhaps this means you can use kit cams that cost about £900 but not modified std cams at about £250!

Hi Tony
I think its a mistake the line that says
"the camshaft Duration is free but the lift must remain as homologated".
has been left in from LAST YEARS REGS and should have been taken out for this year.
Line 7 that says
" everything above the head gasket must remain as homologated"
is correct
I think you will be getting revised regs in the near future.
hope this helps
John

Oh what a disaster!
I've ground my camshafts to meet the requirements of the TT regs and now I find they are incorrect.
Do I have a claim? 8-) 8-)
I took the shell off my racing snail thinking it would make him faster.
It just made him more sluggish.

The regs were issued for consultation... I think that means, so you can spot any mistakes. :D

Would one be right in assuming that the original (standard) cam cover breathing systems must be retained? I haven't described that well, but I mean the bits and pieces that get blanked off.
So how long have I had these voices in my head, I hear you ask?
