Depends if the club call if F2 or F600 from the sound of it. Best check with the clubs (and make sure that they know the difference!)

Calling a sidecar class F600 will be difficult. F600 is a solo class at a lot of clubs. Clubs would be better off running Open class sidecars get every outfit on the grid that is legal and safe and award class trophies/championships accordingly. Is there actualy such a thing as an F600 sidecar. As race organizers see it, not on here. I can assure you that no one at the North East Club has heard about them, appart from me

At club meetings you can run existing motors ,the same as Scarborough and the Southern. They can call them what they want at theTT , its up to individual organizers what class they run. Solos and sidecars, as long as its legal.

The North East Club are running Open sidecars as of last night.

The split will be 600 sidecars and up to 1300 sidecars. We are planning to run Classics off the back of the grid, P3 (ask Ben) as at Thruxton last season. We either have a decent grid of sidecars or no sidecars. This will be at Croft only in March to see how it goes.

The Andreas Racing Association will run, at Jurby, 2 race classes, in all our meetings.
F600 caters for F2 type machines and, obviously engines up to 600cc.
We have a 1300 class for anything below 1300cc (including the afore-mentioned 800s).
We changed the name as the ACU seem to have dictated that F2s are as specified for the TT.

Reading my 2010 ACU bluebook for F11 sidecars ( always got my finger on the pulse) it was a rule in 2010 season to have oil containment upto 10? mm from the exhaust port , so in theory that isnt a change but i havent seen any bikes in the pits with such a large tray.
most people i have spoken to recon it is only for the TT few that the rule applies, so i would be keen to hear the popular view or that of any scrutineers using the site.

I can't understand why you are looking at a 2010 handbook when you can download the 2012 handbook off the ACU website.
Anyway back to the question:
The oil containment is the same for F2 and F600 sidecars and the same for short circuits and the TT.

I'm a scrutineer - Keith is absolutely right, as usual. Oil containment requirements are the same for FII and F600 and this rule applies in general, not exclusively for the TT.

I have been reading the ACU 2012 online hanbook and I think there is a mistake unless I am reading it wrong or there has been an amendment, but I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong.
I have copied and pasted the below from the hanbook pages 295 and 299
6.1. In the area directly below the engine, the oil containment tray must be constructed to hold,
in case of an engine breakdown at least half of the total oil and engine coolant capacity used in
the engine (minimum 5 litres). Th e surrounding edges of the tray must be at least 30 mm above
the bottom of the tray.
18.8
The surrounding edges of the tray must be at least 30mm above the bottom of the tray. 50mm high
measured vertically from the bottom of the tray
I am sure it should read 50mm high not 30mm

The Auto 66 Club regs were delivered here today. For the club championships, there are "F600 Sidecar" & "Open 1300 Sidecar" classes being run. I've not seen the Oliver's Mount regs, they're being sent separately.

Lisa you are correct, it's a mistake by the ACU (surely not!!)
Read it as 50mm.

just to throw another question in regarding this subject.
I got my handbook today. and it says this on page 299
The rear wheel must be protected from any possible oil spray. To make this protection, the engine
and rear wheel compartment must be separated. This separation must be created by installing a solid
divider (wall) running from the top of the inside of the bodywork to the bottom of the oil tray and to
the full width of the rear tyre. This divider (wall) must overlap the rear edge of the oil tray down to
the bottom.
My questions is this, as it states the "wall" has to be full width of the tyre, does this mean it doesn't have to be wider than the tyre and therefore it doesn't have to be so wide, it has to have the chain running through it as some have said??????
Can anyone who knows there bottom from their top or something like that, please advise.
cheers
JC
