Klaus Enders Busch Chassis

Unread post by Kieran Clarke »

In 1972 as you all know Dieter Busch built a lovely sheet steel chassis for Klaus Enders to race in the world championship. Since then Otto Haller a friend of Dieters has made a copy of the chassis with the help from Dieter himself. The CRMC rules state 'Steel plate reinforcing is permitted particularly in area such as the steering head however excess plating or large sheet steel areas are not allowed the chassis must be visibly constructed of tubular steel'. My question is why can't the Busch sheet steel chassis be replicated and raced in the CRMC if it was within the period?

Rudi Kurth built and raced his sheet steel fabricated chassis in the 1960s, some five years before Busch.
As to why the CRMC will not accept them is mystifying, and rather frustrative.

The elegibility of Konig engines is well documented, and is without doubt.
But for reasons best known to themselves, the CRMC will still not accept them.

I know it may be because I have an ex passengers brain, but it always puzzles me why you can't use a Busch replica. You can use new outfits built nearly to F2 spec. No names mentioned.

Make a replica with the same skinny tyres and drum brakes and 500cc engine and I think you would be fine! ;-)

If Klaus Enders himself turned up on that bike in the CRMC they would have to turn him away, not because of the sheet steel construction but because of the wide back tyre!

Here we have Rudi's outfit.

Banning replicas of these outfit seems some how disrespectful of the original builders and riders, but that's just my thinking.

Let's see...you are talking about a "replica"...

Im my eyes a replica of the Enders outfit would have the same dimensions wheels/tyres as the original, and drum brakes and a 500 Rennsport engine... not disc brakes and +1000cc engine and different wheel/tyre sizes...like all modern so-called "classic" outfits have...

I think a proper replica would not be banned.

I think sidecarracing has got it spot on, nobody could ban a totally faithfull replica, but who is going to stump up zillions for a Rennsport engine,it might be possible to replicate the Rudi Kurth outfit for a lot less money ?

Mr Face, would you tell me please tell me the points on newly built classic chassis which are close or the same as F2.

Regards John.

Hello Mr Sample, long time no hear. As I say I was only dangling off the side bit,but as I understand one of the last outfits I raced on had a very similair wheelbase to an F2. Lets just say it was the widest and most angled platform I have ever slept on.Very different from the two Busch outfits Dick raced.I know which was I think were the proper oufits.Apart from that I haven't got a clue, other than that it had 3 wheels and a noisy suck bangy thing. Also an engine.
