Rule change for upgrade to National Licence

Unread post by samappears »

Sorry if this has already been posted...

I was talking about this with KEW and others particularly regarding tracks like brands when F1s lap F2s, but F2s dont lap anyone, as at the last lap, me/Stu were on target for a national signature but as the F1s lapped us, our times were not comparable.

Road Racing Standing Regulations 2.2.4: (Page 276, 2015)
4. Upgrade to National. Clubman competitors who have obtained upgrade signatures for a minimum of 10 separate Race Days at 3 different circuits during the current year and preceding 2 years may apply to be upgraded to a National Licence. To obtain an upgrade signature Competitors must appear in the official result sheets as having finished the race within 110% of the winners time for the race and having completed the same number of laps as the winner. Only one signature per race day will be awarded with the exception of results from Endurance meetings. Where a rider competes in an Endurance race of 3 hrs or more duration 2 signatures will be awarded if the Team completes at least 90% of the number of laps completed by the Race/Class winner.

Above shows the current rule, it’s the bit in yellow highlight that’s changing to:

“To obtain an upgrade signature, riders must be a finisher and have an average race speed greater than 90% of their respective CLASS winner.”

This has come about as some riders have missed out on a signature when racing on a short circuit, like Brands compared with a longer one like Snetterton 300 – in some cases they were lapped on the shorter one but not on the longer one. Or where they’ve been riding in longer length races where they were more likely to be lapped - hence the change.

You’ll now see “Within 10% of winners’ average race speed” as a value for your class at the bottom of each race result in 2015 at Bemsee meetings

You have no idea how long it took me to get that sorted.

It's fair, it's simple and it took a two hour conversation between myself and Craig Smith to come up with the bl**dy obvious - just kicking myself for not seeing it 18 months ago.

Is the change for this year or next year? If it's this year, will the ACU be issuing an amendment to the 2015 Handbook?
No pleasure is worth giving up for the sake of two more years in a geriatric home.

Issued by ACU on Tuesday WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT:-

Dear All,

With immediate effect:

Road Racing Standing Standing Regulations 2.2.4 - a working interpretation of the 110% upgrade to National arrangement.

To obtain an upgrade signature, riders must be a finisher and have an average race speed greater than 90% of their respective CLASS winner.

Reasoning:
To be fair to competitors just being lapped in longer club races, particularly where there are multiple classes.
Much simpler / transparent application.

Endurance not changed

Timekeepers are asked to record the 90% speed for each class on the result sheet.

This makes sense! We were wondering where the 90% bit on the time sheets we got today had come from!

Excellent news - national signature for us to day!
