Steve Kershaw and Rob Wilson, update from the Team

Unread post by steve-e »

Kershaw Racing can now confirm that due to a electrical failure the boys were involved in a serious crash at Knockhill yesterday. Both were taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee where they are currently receiving further care. Stephen has suffered several broken bones including a fractured vertebrate and bones in his hand. Rob is in a critical condition with lower body paralysis. We would like to thank all of the medical staff and marshals at Knockhill for their swift and excellent support, and everyone else at the circuit who helped the team. Thank you for all of your kind thoughts and wishes, we ask that you respect our privacy during these next few difficult weeks. We will keep you posted with any news as it becomes available. Thank you.

There has been a gofundme page set up to collect to help the boys in their time of need. I'll get this on the front with the statement when I get a mo.. (working away at the mo so if any admin are able to do it... Warrington this week)

The Team have posted a new update:

Update: Steve has made good progress with his recovery and hopes to come home tomorrow. It has emerged after an MRI that he has 3 damaged vertebrate but the doctors are confident that this won't hinder his recovery any further. He will wear his back brace for 6-12 weeks, increasing mobility gradually and will find out in about 2 months whether he will require surgery. His hand is broken in 3 places but it is hoped that surgery will not be required.

Rob was moved to Glasgow yesterday and is waiting for surgery next week to re-aligned his spine. Unfortunately we must explain that Rob has lost the use of his body from the chest down and will be in a wheelchair permanently, but he will have use of this arms once his collar bones have healed so that he can develop as much independence as possible.

Everyone at Kershaw Racing gives their continued thanks for all of your well wishes and acts of support. We are overwhelmed by the generosity shown through the online fund and will be using the money wisely to support the team with the significant changes which they now face.
