Development
OK. If the development of sidecars had been left largely unregulated what would they look like now?
The only thing that should be left is one wheel drive and one wheel steering (I know that is 2 but yo get my drift)

No trees were killed in the sending of this message. However a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced.

Re: Development
One things for sure, proper bikes wouldnt be forced to have 600 engines
Stupid idea. Seriously, they would be just as they ( LCR's ) are now. Everything else is just a personalised copy.

Re: Development
There would probably be no world championship as the top bikes would be crazy expensive and only a handful of people able to afford the technology. Oh hang on
Like the LCR now or sitters? I think that would've caught on had it been allowed to continue.
Turbo thousands - still two stroke? , engine more central, still no roof.

Re: Development
Two wheel steering should be allowed, it was used nearly 40 years ago.
Adjustable camber, ie, banking sidecars, also unequal length wishbones front & rear.
Engine position left up to the builder.

Re: Development
I've been told that the ACU don’t know why the 600 long bike thing has happened but they assume that its for safety, well the Birchalls have proved that it wont work, they are almost on the pace of the big bikes…………..
Worked all week, it's time to play gonna get a little bit sideways!!!!

Re: Development
No Morgans, they are 3 wheelers not sidecars, but I'd let in Owen Greenwoods Mini, that was a 4 wheeler!!!!
( Not to go off topic, George Hardwick did a complete restoration on the Greenwood Mini
)
A good starting point to build a modern outfit with no restrictions would be Jack Levy's Unorfordox & then bring Bruce Ford Dunne into the design.

Re: Development
Ah but then Ian you're making rules. Maybe just to exclude certain people, that wouldn't be right would it?

Re: Development
2 wheel steering should be allowed? That was one of only 2 rules specified
One wheel drive
One wheel steering
They were the rules. I still think it would be quicker with no passenger, but then that would be car racing. Richard started innocently but didn't realise how many rules are needed to make sure it's sidecar racing, not trikes or 3 wheeled cars. I think that's a problem we will always have. It's a ridiculous concept from the start.
