Who were the first Rider/Passenger combination to adopt the " modern" rear exit sidecar?

Brian Webb / Colin Booker ?

I thought that would be a hard one Geoff what year?

Would it be somewhere roundabout 1969/70? Could have even been a bit earlier I suppose. First time I ever saw those two with the rear exit was at Scarborough......."God that looks dangerous, it will never catch on"

The question has been asked on here before Ian, in 2013. I was a few years out with my memory

Tony Stark built the first British rear exit in 1976 which was raced by Brian Webb in 1977.The frame was built by Terry Windle with a TZ 750 Yamaha,Tony had an alloy sidecar wheel arch made which allowed the passenger to use both front and rear exit.I believe that the wheel arch was made by Terry Beckett of Nottingham who made the alloy fairing on Dale Ward's Saab outfit.Brian had good placings in 1977 at Scarborough,Snetterton & Donnington Park & won the Sidecar Race of the Year at Cadwell Park on the Woodland Circuit

Brian, you are correct in every thing you say about the Yamaha outfit built by Tony Stark except your reference to the allloy wheelarch,this was built by Ray Pettit of Nottingham who also built the bodywork for the Greenwood Mini and Dale Ward's Saab outfit.The first rear exit I saw was the ARO of Helmut Schilling at the 1975TT.

Hi Dan, I was going to say 1976?? I didn't know Tony stark built the frame?
I was talking to Tony at Cadwell in 2000, didn't he start racing again?
When I was a "youngster" I remember watching some titanic battles between Tony Stark & Bill Crook.
Was it Tony's passenger who lost his helmet at Oulton Park while leading the race only to be black flagged?

on the continent it was also 1976 is my believe, the Fath ARO 500 4-cylinder twostroke was made into a rear-exit outfit.

Rudi didn't have front exit indeed...to be precise...no exit at all! Dane just laid flat as far as I know, so not a true rear exit outfit.

I think the question was about in the modern ish era and that was Brian Webb and Colin Brooker, or at times Brian Hoyle.. I bought a fibreglass version of that alloy wheel arch off Jim Norbury in 78.

That was the question,"modern rear exit".
Geoff, racking my brain, I'm pretty sure it was 1975 at Cadwell I saw Brian Webb & Colin Booker?
