Depends where you are starting from.
In my case (all figures in $Cdn, divide by 2 to get GBP):
1) Visit TT to line up assistance and get in some laps $2,000
2) Obtain an F2 capable of doing the TT $23,000 (including shipping & taxes)
3) Drag passenger along to visit TT before asking for commitment, and do some more laps ($4,000)
3) Win National F2 championship (required to qualify for our FIM license) $15,000
4) Buy and prep 3 motors $10,000
5) Upgrade F2 to latest TT specs and upgrade shocks $5,000
6) Upgrade helmets for TT $1,000
7) Obtain medicals & licenses required for TT $500
8) Ship F2 to England $3,000
9) Travel to England for a shake down race weekend with NG $5,000
9) Pay for ferry to IOM $1,500
10) Go to the TT $4,000
11) New tires and other supplies for TT $1,500

So about $75,000 give or take (or 37,500 GBP)

Now if you start from somewhere in the UK and already have National Licenses and an F2 etc. then quite a bit less...

it's never ending... if you want to do it do it you'll regret it more when you can't rather than worrying about how much it will cost most people don't want to no I no I don't nor does my wife no she thinks it's free....

It is more expensive than you hope but cheaper than you think it will be . A lot depends on luck and preparation, no engine blow ups or major mechanical breakdowns/damage and not vast amounts of cash have to be spent while you are there......unless you are high livers

The only trouble is Jeff you don't only have the expense once, you have to keep going back year after year after you have ridden there for the first time.

Like Karl says, do it ! There is no point sitting in your rocking chair in years to come wishing you had done. It just means it won't take you as long to count all your money in your old age

Jeff, at 70 you are too old........to worry about the cost , dig out some of that money you have stuffed underneath your mattress and get it spent

Seriously though, I would think your best chance of getting a close enough guide of a cost to you would be from the French teams who compete at the TT as they will have a better idea than anybody about any charges for licences/permission from the French racing authorities, ferries and everything else needed plus the travel allowance you will get from the TT organisers.

Francois Beauchamp, Fanch on this site and well known by everyone in the TT paddock , seems to be the unofficial minder for the French competitors and he may be able to help you with the information you require.

Unfortunately it is nine years since I last rode at the TT, or anywhere else , and costs have moved on since then so I am not up to date with them.

Robin Daykin of Team Past It fame (with wife Annette) was 74 years old when he first competed in the TT, 54 years after racing an AJS 7R at the Manx Grand Prix, and he was only going to do it the once...........until he entered again the following year. Be warned, it is addictive

Don't confuse cost with value... there is nothing on earth that compares with finishing in a real road race, and no road race more prestigious than the TT, so it's PRICELESS. Go for it.
Or you could get a nice classic and do the Pre-TT at Billown on the amazing and ultra-challenging Southern 100 Course in the south of the Isle of Man.
If you want to come and have a look and find out more, on the spot, there's always room in my house for sidecar people (at no cost... how's that for value!).
