It is with deep regret I have just been told that Colin died today at 4-10pm, he had been unwell for some time.
As some of you will know, he built many fine outfits, his workmanship was second to none.
He started his racing career on solos in the 1960s and switched to sidecars in the early 1970s.
He built his first outfit for himself, and soon orders from other competitors started to come in.
His machines achived many top results, including IOM TT wins.
On seeing one of Colins outfits Dieter Busch remarked that it was one of the best built bikes he had ever seen ( praise indeed)
With sincere condolence to Iris.

Very sorry to hear this - smashing bloke - always had time to tell a tale or offer guidance - built some really nice outfits too !

Very sad news, another innovator gone, top man

Very sad news.

My first season was on a Jacobs F2.

Colin built me a chassis in 1989, best handling outfit I've ever ridden. All done from his pre fab garage at the side of his house up in Lancaster.
Loss of a top man. RIP Colin.

Cheerio Colin and thank you from all the lads you helped.
I did the TT on the Thundercat outfit you built for Howard
and raced one of your long tubular bikes many times.

A one off, a great character, his work was outstanding, We stayed with Colin & Iris after Barbon Speed Hill climb, which meant a trip to the pub with lots of story's & laughs, RIP Colin

Remember good times back in the late 70's racing against & socialising with Colin. Always helpful & good for a laugh. R.I.P.

Colin was a great guy and a real character who would be only ready to give help and advice to to fellow competitors. I have known him for nearly 50 years and it was great to see him at Croft when he was able to get over when well enough. Deepest sympathy Iris on your loss.RIP Colin
His funeral is on Tuesday 24th in Wray church at 11.30 followed by a get together at the Railway in Caton.

My introduction to sidecar racing was on a fine example of engineering provided by Colin Jacobs, it was such a fine machine that on one occasion while racing at Aintree we completed a five laps race without the need for our engine sprocket nylock nut to be secured in place. ( it had been picked up by a marshal on the start grid)

I shudder to think what the outcome may have been if the chain had come off the shaft.....


My Driver (Martin Robinson) knew it was ours and returned to claim it once the race was done.
