Racing overseas, insurance?

I’m thinking of getting a ‘true classic’ to do some road racing next season. I’m worried that I have seen people in the past, some good friends of mine, get hurt wile racing overseas without personal injury and repatriation insurance. Some of these people wound up with huge bills for hospitalization and repatriation. Is there anyone on the forum who can recommend a good ‘tailor made’ policy?

How did they manage to get start permission if they didn't have insurance?
If you get insurance and start permission off the ACU then you are covered.

This was quite a few years ago and a lot of people didn't bother. It was always in the regs for the races but no body asked to see the proof. One guy I knew ended up £30,000 in dept, tosser

I was speaking to Jim Hamilton at the weekend as we all know has been abroad recently and personnel insurance to race overseas can be obtained through the ACU and I think he said the costs was about £130 per person, which I believe covers medical fees and repatriation.

The way around the start permission is to get a native licence then you are free to choose your insurer, you can get event or annual licences

Kermit,
How easy is it to get a French licence, I had a foreign International licence a few years back, and of course the ACU won`t give a licence if you haven't had one for 3 years
