Roy has decided to retire from racing, as of now.

About time too!!!!.Give the youngsters a chance
Rose will need to buy him a pipe and slippers

Roy, dig out a BSA and come classic racing.

Happy retirement Roy, you served your sentence, best of luck in the future, whatever you choose to do.

Wow, I didn't see this coming.Thanks for all the help,mickey taking ,and just being there.Enjoy whatever your next adventure is going to be.Most of all thanks for the friendship that I know will continue.

What an idea !!!

The first time I saw some orange and black helmets, it was at Rouen - Les Essarts in 1974.

I can't forget that weekend !!

Cycled down to Brands to watch Roy and Norman on the unfaired BSAs back in early 70s. never dreamed at the time I would go on to spend many years sharing the paddock with them, enjoy the rest Roy and hope to see you around the paddock.

Hi Roy, Its a sad to hear you are hanging up your leathers .I know the FSRA lads will miss you along with Smithy and Pat but i hope we will still see you around some circuits.The TT will not seem the same with no Hanks name in the program.

Sad news will miss Roy around the paddock Roy Hanks is synonymous with sidecar racing ..my first TT I have a photo setting off for practice in my orange jacket just ahead of Roy..so in awe and I have never lost the respect for Roy

That's both sad and also really something special.

Roy has been a part of motorcycle sport for as long as I can remember, as a competitor, member of the ACU Committee and more recently as a Director. His work with the Benevolent Fund is often overlooked as he goes about his business in this respect quietly and diligently.

I have often found myself on the opposite side of a debate from Roy, but I have always respected his views and understood that they were often based on experience that I didn't have because he had been around for so long and seen so much.

I wish him a very happy retirement from racing, but at the same time hope that he still keeps up his involvement in all forms of the sport.

Many words could be used to describe Roy:-
Tenacious, stubborn, likeable, knowledgeable, approachable, helpful, competitive, or even statesmanlike.

However, the two words that I think are most appropriate are "Sportsmanlike" & "Awesome"
